Not worth the money, VERY loud on the 3rd floor!
By ,
Pros: large room, fairly new (although there is some wear and tear), clean, friendly staff, great location, beautiful courtyard Cons: LOUD. Wow, the noise coming from the bar downstairs is unreal. Forget going to bed before 2am. We called the front desk at midnight and requested to change rooms and they claimed there was nothing available. We asked when the music was going to stop and they played stupid as if they had no idea what noise we were referring to. The next morning upon checkout we asked to speak to the manager and he said that yes, they do get regular complaints about the music from the guests staying in that room. Isn't that something that should have been mentioned? We demanded a discounted rate and he offered free breakfast. I don't think so and by the way, the food is terrible as well. I will never stay here again. Don't make the same mistake we did - there are MUCH nicer hotels to stay at along the Riverwalk.

Not what i expected!
By ,
My husband recently came back from deployment, so we were looking for a nice hotel on the riverwalk to have some romantic time. We picked this hotel and I really wish we wouldnt have. The cost of this hotel does not match the service. When we checked in the front desk clerk told us we would be staying in room 426. We got our key and headed to our room. Upon entering the room I saw shades on the dresser. Looking around a little more we saw a cooler, ipad and dirty clothes. My husband and I immediately high tailed it out of there. I felt like I had violated someones space. Of course we went back to the front desk and told them they had given us the key to someones room. So she gave us a different room. After my Husband and I settled in our room we decided to order room service. It took about 30 minutes for it to come. My order was wrong. My husbands order was right but after eating half of his sandwich he found a very long hair under the second half. I have shorter hair. I took the food downstairs and they apologized and gave us 2 more meals. The second day of our stay we got stuck in the elevator. We used the emergency phone and sounded the alarm and nobody came. It was terrible. The elevator finally let us and another guest (who was a teenager) off. I must say the breakfast there is very good. The bartender was a very nice gentleman also.

never even got to stay there
By ,
The morning of my check-in for a 3 day visit my baby daughter was admitted to the ICU in serious condition. The hotel had a one night minimum charge policy in case of late cancellations. I booked through Expedia and they said they would call the hotel as this policy was often forgiven for medical emergencies. Alas the hotel decided they would go ahead and charge me one nigths stay anyway since I was just a nameless poor loser.

Poor Room Service, Bad Food
By ,
I will not again and would not recommend anyone to stay at the Valencia Hotel San Antonio.  The Food that was delivered to my Room by  Room Service would have not been eaten by a homeless person ! The Pizza was greatly overcooked & dried up. The Grilled Cheese was partially cooked on one side and not cooked at all on the overside and cold.  The French Fries were soggy. My Business & Personal Travels take me to many fine hotels both Domestically and Internationally. In my 50+ years of Travel,  I have Never Experienced this Bad of Food Quality. I called for the Front Desk Manager to come to my room and see and taste this food. She arrived with the Food and Beverage Manager and Both of them twice declined my request to taste the food. They would not eat food from their own hotel ! The Front Desk Manager offered a $ 50.00 Food Credit. What a joke, I would never eat their food again. We left the room and went out for dinner at a restaurant on the River Walk instead of enjoying eating in our room and watching a movie as planned. The next morning,  I thought about ordering Room Service and said to myself no way. I checked out 2 hours earlier than I would have  ( if I had not had such a bad experience with Room Service ) and went to another Restaurant.

Not worth the extra fare
By ,
My boyfriend and I decided we deserved to stay somewhere a bit more upscale than our usual hotel. We paid double our ususal fare and expected to get what we paid for. Initally the service was exceptional, we forgot our concert tickets in the vehicle and Valet brought them up to our room within a matter of minutes. The room was very clean, the decor was very elegant and it carried a sense of romance. The only issues we had were that the mattress felt more like a box spring and when we called down for our car in the morning they said it would only be a 15 minute wait. We waitied about 15 minutes in the room, went to check out (about 5 more minutes), then waited outside for another 25 minutes! I finally asked about our car and they did not have it on the list to pick up!! Within a couple of minutes they had our vehicle for us. My boyfriend and I wondered if we would have to pay more just to be able to sleep on a mattress. I like to get my money's worth and I really don't feel that we did. Our usual hotel is half the price, free cocktails, appetizers, free breakfast and a bed almost as comfortable as the one we have at home. I feel we overpaid for the price of convenience.

Average hotel @ a five star price
By ,
First, we reserved a smoking room thru travelnow.com only to discover that the Hotel Valencia is all non smoking. We also reserved a room overlooking the Riverwalk, only to be put in a room that the lower room had an awning which completely covered any view of the Riverwalk, the hotel did change our room, but only after we got upset & wanted a refund, still no Riverwalk view though & no refund of any money, even though our original room had a much higher price. The noise level is horrible, don't even think about sleeping before 2 AM as the music from the bar area is way too loud. Complaints to the front desk do absolutely no good. The hotel is dark but the room was clean, no problems there. The darkness is not that bad, kinda romantic actually. The Bloody Mary's there are great, best anywhere. We would stay there again, but not at the price which we paid this trip.

5 Star Hotel?? Think again.
By ,
My two aunts, mother, and I thought it would be fun to stay at a "5 STAR HOTEL" in San Antonio for a change and also thought it was nice to be in walking distance from the Majestic where we were going to attend The Lion King Broadway show...were we wrong. We reserved two rooms next to each other in advance and were told they'd be ready by 3. Unfortunately they were not and weren't ready till 7 (show was at 8, so we had to rush just to get ready) and somehow they couldn't get our rooms next to each other so we were separated. Also when we called to see if the rooms were ready, we were transferred to 4 different people before we were connected to the front desk. Valet parking- we were rushed by staff out of our car when we first got there, and had to wait 30-45 min just to get our car back. Also they were rude and made us feel like idiots when we asked a few questions. Hotel itself- Too dark! I’ve never been to a 5 star hotel that looked like a dungeon before. Bathroom in one room- Lots of dust on counters and where towels were stored. Bathroom in the other- floor was dirty with dirt. Phone in one room- Did not work. Iron- Did not work. Room itself- could hear every drunk yelling and car outside on the street. Also could not sleep with the music and sounds of the club in the hotel by the bar. We did enjoy our trip when we were NOT at the hotet. This was a mistake, thanks for ruining it.

Great place..only one complaint
By ,
My husband and I went to San Antonio for our honeymoon. It was our first time there and we chose the Hotel Valencia. The hotel is beautiful. We booked it because the price was discounted at the time, we probably would not have otherwise. We did not eat or drink anything from the mini bar and fridge in the room(tempting but way too expensive).. There is a Walgreens one block down. My only complaint would have been that the hot water to take a shower was not hot at all..it was luke-warm..very disappointed about that..who wants to take a shower with the water being more cold than hot?? Definately not me!! The lasat night there I decided to let the water run for about 5 minutes before it started to get a little hotter. The bathtub was on the smaller side. I would stay here again though.. It is located on a quiet part of the Riverwalk.
