Terrible Service, had to leave

I would never recommend this property to anyone travelling to Santa Barbara. After wating for over 4 hours for our room, it finally became dinner time and our room was still unavailable. I waited with my elderly mother from just prior to lunch until dinner time for a room that never materialized. No one offered to hold our bags, give us a beverage while we waited, nothing but "your room will be one more hour, one more hour, no one more hour." It all finally came to a head after my third attempt at check-in when it still wasn't ready and all the college age employees at the desk wanted to argue with me rather than offer any courtesy. Meanwhile, folks without reservations were given rooms upon arrival. We wasted 5 hours of our first day of vacation trying to get into a room that never was made available. Not being able to keep my Mother waiting around in the summer heat any longer to lay down, we had to find other accomodations. Naturally, as nasty as the staff was here, they actually hasd the audacity to charge me a $300 cancellation fee I dsicovered upon returning home. I cannot express enough how miserable the service is here. It gets zero stars from me. I also witnessed in my four hours in the lobby, another gentleman checking out who also had to argue with them about having been locked out of his room before check-out time. This property covets their rooms so much, they apparently don't want anyone to have them. So, in short, no room for us, no ocean view. Thank God for the Francsican Inn around the corner on Bath Street. Wonderful service there, very polite desk staff. I used to live in this very neighborhood where these hotels are located and never dreamed all that time how bad the service was at Oceana. I cannot express enough on you to try anywhere else but Oceana.
