go elsewhere
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/30/06
Likes: -The room was OK. - The food tasted good (though it made me sick). - They had free drinks in the evening in the executive lounge. - Close to the EGL campus Dislikes: - Insane price for what you get. - Overcharged me (fraudulently) for telephone use - Staff won't correct billing mistakes, even when they are proven in error. - The food made me sick, probably because it wasn't kept hot, only warm. - Hotel is next to an open sewer - Howling dogs will wake you up at 3AM - Substandard internet connectivity - Lost power several times, sometimes just to my room In short, stay away or you will be sorry.

Great Service, not so great hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/12/06
My stay at the Hotel Royal Orchid was cut short for a reason. I stayed at the beginning of April 06 for a week. I stayed in a top floor (5th floor) room for a rate of $300 per night. I am not sure why this hotel in a 5 star class. Dislikes-- The walls are paper thin!!! You can hear the TV, phone ringing and not to mention the door bell from rooms next to you. The linens including the robe hung in the bathroom had stains on them. The furniture was banged up pretty bad. The shower would not stay on, because the lever one would pull out to make it a shower, kept slipping back. I had to MacGyver the clothesline string to keep the shower running. Being next to the golf course was more of a drawback for me. First, the Golf Course has an open area where they throw all of their trash. This causes a pack of about 15 dogs to stay close. And for some reason at 3am, they will go nuts barking. Second, the Golf Course burns their trash. Coupled with the open sewer line and you get a very foul odor that will travel into your room. The outdoor functions were fun to see/hear the first night, but every night until midnight, got ridiculous. My room was also quiet small, with a very tiny bathroom. Likes-- I would say the food at Ginsengs and Geoffrey’s was good. The staff is very attentive, and I give them high marks. They also had happy hour in the Exec Lounge from 7-8pm that was nice. There was a pool on the roof, but it was only 4 feet deep. I ended up calling the Leela Palace to see if I could get a room there at a similar rate. I got the Conservatory Room for the same rate of $300 per night (Corporate Rate). And WOW....if you can, stay at the Leela. The room is twice the size, with a huge all marble bathroom. I would highly recommend this place, although the food and other items are a tad more expensive, it is worth it, especially if you are on business travel.

If you can't stay at Leela
By Mark B, 02/02/06
Royal Orchid is a very serviceable hotel. When it was in the under $150 a night range, it was also an excellent value. Rooms are clean, setting is quiet, food is OK (I recommend the pub). At $300 a night, its not worth it, but it is clean and safe. Depending on the season, the river out front can be a bit aromatic, but the tend to burn lots of incense to cover. Like everywhere in India, it seems, internet access is not free (Rs 660 at last count per day). Nice place - just remember its not the Leela.

Convinient and Near Airport!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/14/06
We were put up in this hotel by BA due to cancelled flight. Just 3 miles from Bangalore Airport, good service, well maintained, great food and resturant. Only gripe is drinage next to the property, no strolling around the hotel or lawn. We didn't pay for our stay, but did use internet service and local phone from room, both are very expensive.

Costly Hotel with lot of distrubence
By gen, 12/11/05
Like: cleanliness and overall maintenance Dislike: Dog barkings, Aeroplane horrible sounds, Indecency of staff making hell lot of sounds in the night just by slamming the doors hard. Dislike: they do arrange too many (every day) parties and put high volume and do not allow anyone to sleep. Dislike: No car parking slots and are usually occupied by the partying people. No control for the the management.

Hmm!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/24/05
This is four star hotel but the room I had was very tired and felt grubby. The location (close to the MG road), meant there was no escape from the continual street noise. I have rated the service as average since on a number of occasions items I requested through reception did not arrive. The room tarrif was no cheaper than the excellent 5 star Grand Ashok. On the plus side the top floor restaurant "paparazzi" was very good.
