would stay their again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/11/09
I liked everything about the Inn. i didnt even have to make a reservation just walked in and they had a room. and paid by cash also. the room was on the third floor and the room was very nice and every thing in it. but the room was a little to warm other than that it was great. and the stuttle took me to harper hosp. and back and to union sation to eat Dinner. and they breakfast they have for their guest is very good also. if you leave their hungery it is your own fault. and i think i even got a deal on the room as i only paid 99.00 but i would stay their in a heart beat and tell all my fmaily and friends to stay their also if they had buss. to do in Detroit for a couple of days like i did. the rooms was very clean, the location wasnt bad either once i found it. and the value couldnt be beat. and all the staff was very kind and helpful. the service i got their was top rate.

A step back in time
By Tammy, 01/04/09
My husband and I booked a room for New Year's Eve. We were attending a concert at the Fox Theatre, and having no knowledge of this city, were flying blind. I was attracted to the Inn on Ferry Street for several reasons: It was close to the theatre, but not down town, the pictures on the website looked stunning, the price was what I would have paid for a lesser quality stay somewhere else, but most of all there was free shuttle service to the theatre. We did not want to attempt parking or driving on NY eve in an unfamiliar city. This Inn did not disappoint! We arrived several hours early and had plenty of time to soak up the lovely architecture, talk with the very informative and kind staff, enjoy a local pizza and relax in our extra comfy bed for a little while before our concert. The shuttle took a group of us right to the theatre door and picked us up within minutes of our call that we were ready to depart. It was so convenient to not have to worry about driving and parking. The next morning, we enjoyed a wonderful breakfast of scrambled eggs, waffles and fresh fruit, as well as fresh brewed coffee and juice. Everything was top of the line. Even the toiletries in our room were splendid. I researched them online after returning home only to find they are from a family owned business in England. Every small detail was attended to and every effort was made to make this an outstanding stay for us. I cannot wait to return some day. It's a little more costly than I am used to, but it was well worth it.

One of My Favorites!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/29/08
I have stayed at the Inn three times; once for my daughter's 18th birthday, once for a church ladie's retreat and once with a group of friends who rented one whole house which we had all to ourselves. Each visit was utterly delightful and refreshing. The beauty of the mansions contribute to the feeling of stepping back in time. I love the shuttle service and found it available whenever it was needed. The breakfast is fabulous and the staff very accomodating. I have stayed at many historic Inns and this is one of the BEST!!!

the goodness of Detroit
By Kathleen, 01/08/08
The Inn on Ferry Street is a historic, beautifully renovated, fresh, clean slice of the goodness of Detroit! The food was delicious. Coffee was ample and hot. In-room music CDs of local artists & Detroit-based reading material enjoyed. Safe, secure and the staff is oh, so friendly. Yes, I will return!

Yes, you should stay here.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/02/08
I've stayed at the Inn on Ferry Street twice. It's really more of a boutique hotel than a B&B (although you do get a nice free breakfast). If you're in Detroit on business or for any other reason, this is a great place to stay. They have a free shuttle service to the area restaurants and bars, and the staff is warm and helpful. The rooms are comfortable and beautifully decorated, and the three 100-year old mansions that make up the Inn are stunning. It's on the Wayne State campus, right next to the Detroit Institute of Arts and across from the Historical Museum and the main branch public library. I'd never even consider staying at a hotel if I could get a room at the Ferry Street Inn.

Terrible Experience Twice
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/21/07
The first time we stayed there they gave us the wrong room. They appologized and said they would give us a voucher so we could stay there with the right room. We agreed to it but it took them 6 weeks to get the voucher to us after several phone calls. We reserved the room for second time and they said it would be available. We drive there and once we arrive we are given a very small room with nothing we were promised. After complaining we found out the room we were suppose to get had a key broke off in the lock and they were sorry but they couldnt do anymore for us. The staff was very helpful but the owner thought it was acceptable to give us the wrong room twice. We left there after that and stayed at a Holiday Inn Express. The experience there was much more pleasant. The rooms we were put in looked nothing like the pictures even when we paid the high dollar for the Queen excutive suite the first time.

Would definitely stay there again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/17/07
I was recently in Detroit for work and stayed here and loved it. Great price, very good continental breakfast complete with Starbucks coffee. And, the room coffee maker is Starbucks which was good. I usually avoid the in-room coffee at all costs. For me, the location was great as I was working at a nearby museum and the hotel shuttle was very accomodating. The only negative which is not a big deal was there was nowhere to put anything in the bathroom. There was a tiny glass shelf but that was it. Like I said, though, not a big deal and I would definitely stay there again.

THE BEST
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/06/07
I absolutley loved this place. The room was beautiful. The staff made the stay perfection I had a problem early in the morning and usually hotels are not quick to answer your needs. I did not know how to work the shower and I called down she gave me pinpoint directions on how to use it stayed on the phone while I did it and even offered to change my room because I was getting ready for an interview and was running late. The little lady was even nice enough to call back and see if everything was fine and I told her yes. when I came down to the front desk I offered her a tip she declined she said Thats my job. She made me feel very good that day when I expected to go through all kinds of trouble.

Worth every penny and then some!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/22/06
We were lucky enough to stay at the Ferry Street Inn over Labor Day weekend during a quick 4 day Chicago-Detroit midwest tour. First, coming from the very expensive SF Bay Area, we were disappointed to find that Chicago needed a healthy serving of humble pie - that town really has a superiority complex - everything from hotel rates to restaurants was completely overpriced. So imagine our delight when we arrived at DTW and the Ferry Street Inn! What sweet relief! We are convinced that Detroit, MI has the friendliest people on earth and is the best kept secret in the Midwest! The staff at the Ferry Steet Inn were so helpful and competent - every encounter we had - whether it was with the front desk to the kitchen staff and even the overnight security guard - was a complete delight! We had the 3rd floor apt. at the Inn's Owen House with a jacuzzi bathtub. Our room was SPOTLESS and such a homey sanctuary after Chicago, we were so grateful. They even had a space heater for West Coast Wimps like us, who thought the brisk 50 degree fall weather was a bit cold. The midtown location was ideal, so many musuems, it's just steps to DIA and the famous Diego Rivera murals. A five minute drive (or weather permitting a 20 minute walk) to Foxtown and the new ballparks. It's also just 5-10 min. to the Fischer Building's Pure Detroit store and the absolute MUST-SEE Motown Museum! Less than 10 minutes to drive to downtown or 15 minutes to the suburbs. Plus there's plenty of parking and they offer a complimentary shuttle van within 5 miles so you don't have to pay the $$ parking fees at the new stadiums. And the breakfast! The Ferry Inn served the best meals we had during our entire Midwest Trek! The waffles were delicious and the produce was so fresh! The strawberries were so good it was as if we never left California! Thank you Ferry Street Inn - we'll be back!
