Colony Inn, Palmer

Best pick in the Historic Colony town of Palmer, site of the Teacher's Drom, it whispers of stories from long ago, when single teachers arrived often for their first teaching job in the terrirority of Alaska. Restored and charming. Do not stay at the local hotel, run by the same people, it was awful then and still is awful, although the cafe there is open 24/7 and fair priced old time American food. The place to stay is this Colony Inn, this place is great. Nice on site cafe for lunch and Sunday brunch. And close to the Historic Colony House for a look at living back in 1935 when the wilderness became a New Deal Colony town. Also charming and close to the historic log church of the 1000 trees. The mountains are fantastic too, rising 8000 feet from their base just minutes from town.
