We Can't Wait to Go Back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/7/09
In January we stayed in Unit 21 The condo was hudge the lake was full of ice preasure ridges cracking buckeling and shimmering amazing views. The wood fireplace heated the unit up nicely. Very cozy. Strange thing is we rented and booked the unit thru Lutsen Lodging Co. as a North Shore Condo however its in the Chateau Leveaux building. Private owner I guess.

Made a perfect labor day weekend
By Bernard, 8/31/08
like; They have an internet site that shows the decoration in each unit. all units individually owned. So it is possible to pick a unit with decor that is comfortable for each guest. We picked unit 15, which has been updated with knotty pine walls, the unit was very clean, and comfortable. Full view of Lake Superior out the living room and bedroom. There is a stairway down to the shore, we enjoyed time on the rocks. There is a bike path right outside of the resort, and many excellent hiking paths from easy to difficult within 5-6 miles of the resort. It may be older than other resorts in the area, but we appreciated the quiet, quaint semi-secluded surroundings. It is obvious management cares about this resort, and evident that updates are being done. And to top it all off they have WIFI and dish TV.

I must be obsessed ...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/9/08
After tring four times at Trip Advisor, I am trying Yahoo. I just want to compliment a place I very much like. This is my fourth attempt at this review. I have sent two inquiries to Trip Advisor and have heard nothing. My reviews disappear without any note as to what I am doing wrong. I am determined to get something published and have reviewed about every place I have visited lately. All sit as pending. So let me explain that I disagreed with a previous reviewer who complained about the power outage at Chateau one weekend. I am sure I was not appropriate so I tried again and again. I just really felt for the people at this nice little hotel. They were great and did what they could, even though the outage was such that the phones did not work. It was a very cold weekend, much too cold to ski, and most of the visitors were probably staying with ski packages. The cold weather was not the fault of Chateau and neither was the power outage. The outage lasted under two hours and was actually kind of exciting. We hunkered down in our room with only the wood burning fireplace for heat and light. It was great. And while we did nto ski, we enjoyed a quiet weekend with aq view of the lake, a swiming pool and a whirlpool. We also liked having a full kitchen. The person at the desk, Mary, was always nice and came to know us. The place is small and intimate. This time, I saved my review to keep sending until it gets posted or maybe try Yahoo. As the title says "I must be obsessed". This does make me wonder who gets posted and who does not.

Best piece of the shore
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/30/07
Chateau sits on a ledge rock cliff and has spectacular views. This is its best asset. Beyond taht it is an older resort, in need of a little bit of work. It is still worth staying for the view, the friendky staff, and rooms with full kitchens and fireplaces. The place is being upgraded with some newly decorated rooms and front lobby. They even have wireless internet.

Very nice but not perfect ...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/15/07
I was looking at all these wonderful reviews and one bad one. I have traveled the North Shore my whole life and have stayed at many of the campgrounds, lodges, and resorts. Most recently we have been staying at Chateau. This is not a 5 start luxury boutique hotel. Nothing on the shore is. It is a very nice lodge with friendly, somtimes a little quirky, staff and beautiful views of the lake. Every room has a view. Every room is privately owned and the decorating reflects their taste - or lack of it. If you have preferences, just talk with the staff and ask to have a look before checking in. Still, I highly recommend it. This is a vanishing breed of lodging that is disappearing in the U.S. All along the shore there is development going on. The new places just don't have that same look, feel, and warmth. We love sitting on the patio listening to the lake. I go with my family and I go alone. It is a very comfortable place for singles.

Spectacular Views ...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/2/07
I would absolutely return. This is a small lodge on the North Shore of Lake Superior. Tucked down below the highway, it is easily missed but protected from the noise of Hwy 61. The views are spectacular, every room is on the lakeside and there is a huge deck off the lobby. This place is older but, now under new management, great things are happening. The small size is very nice. The pool is not crowded and the lobby is a comfortable living room for all guests. The staff are very nice. My friend and I spent a long weekend. I liked having a separate bedroom and a kitchen in our room. I am an early riser and could do my thing. We hada beautiful view from our room but I took my computer to the lobby where I could do some work and watch the sunrise over the lake. Spectacular. There is no restaurant in the building but we took a nice mornign walk on the Gitchi Gami trail to Coho Cafe for breakfast. That evening we had a little fire on the rocks by the lake. We made s'mores and fed graham crackers to the seagulls.

Great outdoors ...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/31/07
It was wonderful. The smell alone is a delicious combination of pine, dirt, water and chill - a scent I wish you could bottle. The lake was very choppy and waves continuously crashed into the rocks below. A beautiful spot. We had a lovely time. Nature is a wonder because it can be appreciated in many directions. All was fine but it is the setting that makes this place wonderful.

Our favorite place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/23/07
Chateau is an affordable place right on the lake. I don't understand going to the shore and not staying on the water. It is beautiful and we should have spent more time looking at the lake, feeding the seagulls, and maybe using the fireplace. Well, it was a little warm this weekend. So, we just enjoyed another long weekend at our favorite place! The weather was nice while the southern part of the state had horrible rains. Maybe next time we can spend more time on the lake.
