Greunke's First Street Inn, Bayfield

Everyione is friendly and have met many of the locals that eat there (not just tourists). It is located in the middle of town, and easy access for the shops, or festival events. It is one of the few places that will take a reservation for one night. I've been stopping by the place for years and have tried nearly every food and wine on the menu and never disappointed. I've also stayed in most every room.....from a small room with one bed & dresser to a large studio room with kitchen, cable, a/c and big enough for friends or a family. Bayfield is big on hiking & backpacking & sailing & kayaking to the Apostle Islands.

From the mishmash of garage sale linens and towels to the shower black with mold and mildew, Greunke's should be avoided at all costs. Additionally, the proprietor refused to honor her posted rates, and we had to pay an additional $20 per night. But it's the filth that will keep us from coming back...the private bath in our room was positively repugnant.

The menu was NOT creative at all, very meat and potatoes, Go to Maggie's, Much better food, I did however like the atmosphere at Gruenke's. Nice old building with allot of cool old photos. The wait staff was nice and efficient. Prices high, quality, forgettable.
