Have Been Enjoying the Walsh for Years!
By dukes, 2/17/10
We are global travelers, and sometimes stay in 5-star spots, sometimes not. The Walsh is not 5-Star, nor do they pretend to be. The former owner, since passed, did her best and was kind and fair to a fault. The new owners have made a point to upgrade and clean, they are decent folk who will return your good intentions and manners with the same. That said, do know that there are no marble baths or concierge services, but you're on a glorious, wide beach with endless walks and windswept dunes, near some greasy spoons your sons and husband will probably like, and a short walk from a nursery with prices 1/4 the price you'll find in Seattle. Imagine you're visiting family when you go to the Walsh...you can put your feet up, play a board game, watch winter storms, roast marshmallows, have loud sex, fly a kite, run the dogs, cook a huge omelet - whatever you feel like doing. It's not fancy in Grayland or Westport, it's relaxed. Get that vibe and the Walsh will be the perfect spot for you. If you need upscale or 5-star or room service, that's great, but this isn't the place for you. If you want really reasonable prices in one of Washington's forgotten but cozy corners, try the Walsh. We've been going for years and have never been disappointed. If we bump into each other while you're there, I'll be the one in slippers and a sweatshirt, with old jeans on, (or a bikini, depending on the season) spending my time with my happy kids, dogs and man. Whoo-hoo!

definitely will go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/13/09
After reading reviews we were a little apprehensive, took our own bedding and towels, but not necessary they stayed in the trunk. Very clean rooms, bedding and towels very fresh, great views, right on beach. I will definitely call this place first to check if room is available next time.

beautiful time
By frank, 9/3/09
In regards to the WALSH MOTEL - I have learned that they are now owned by SaltAire Dunes Holdings LLC and have been since January 1st 2008. My wife and I have been coming here for several years and did see it fall into a state of disrepair as the owner (Kay Walsh) was aging and could no longer tend the property properly. Since last year though we have been seeing upgrades to it as the rooms have been freshly painted, the grounds are being attended to - and the new managers (Ted and Marsha Hargis) have shown us nothing but first class hospitality. Clean rooms, an attentive staff, and attractive grounds will keep us coming back for more! They now provide a crab cooking pot for us to cook our crabs in - a new outdoor fire pit for us to gather our friends around and roast marshmallows in - and they are adding a clam cleaning station down at the beach units (they already have one up by the office) where we can clean our catch. Now the WALSH MOTEL magic lives on!

Shame on you Pamela Buck
By Loved It, 9/2/09
I think that Pamela Buck's review is way way off course. She wonders why management told them it was time to go, uh well lets see if you check the website it clearly states that check out is at 11:00 am and considering the fact that she clearly stated she was there till 12:30 I would have done a lot more than just told her it was time to go. I would have charged her for another day, it's a business not your own personal place to break the rules. Did you ever wonder if maybe the room had been reserved for someone else, yeah I think not. You Pamela Buck are clearly a selfish person that believes rules should be bent just for you and your catty self. Furthermore if you had found out anything about the hotel you would know that only one person manages it so god forbid if that person wasn't there at your beck and call. I highly doubt from my experience with the hotel that if you had made an appropriate check in time (and of course showed up at said time) that you would have been made to wait. And whats more what kind of place did you think you were staying at some place on Park Ave. in New York. Give me a break, so the rooms are not in prestine condition which I am sure your tight ass requires (while your of course breaking the rules and complaining) maybe if you would have taken a second to realize that you were on the beach at a nice hotel then look around the area at what the rates cost elsewhere you would have had less to whine about. People like you make me sick. Your a whiner and a sad complainer. I loved my experience at the hotel. Mind you I live in the vacation capitol Las Vegas and I know what first class means. First class all the way for Walsh Motel. Trust me miss snotty Pamela Buck people like you need to remove the stick that is so firmly wedged where the sun doesn't shine and learn to appreciate the sights and people around you. I bet the only time you leave a review is to complain. Enough said 5 stars all the way for Walsh.

Pets allowed at Walsh Motel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/4/09
I have been going to the Walsh Motel as a kid with my parents. We always got the older cabin units where dogs are allowed. As an adult I came with friends and family four to five times a year in the summer and always a great place to stay, short walk to the beach, I loved it but now relatives have taken over the Walsh and they are rude rude rude! And the unit I get is not real clean and I found out through a phone call to them that the blankets are not washed each change of people. I knew the bedspread wasn't clean but blankets? How many people change their babies diapers on the bed or make love in it. Now I bring my own bedding at all Hotel/Motels. It's a shame the younger relatives don't keep the Walsh up to snuff.

Walsh Motel gotta be better place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/27/07
We just had a family reunion at the Walsh Motel. It was not what I expected. The rooms were not that clean. They allow pets but do not have a pet area so they go in the childrens play area which was not good since there were a lot of small children there. It is a shame this place is not kept up. It could be a showplace with a little elbow grease and a good vacumn. The beach access is wonderful. The beach units are ok but the cottages should be gone through and make sure everything works and the carpet could be thrown out and the floors painted for a cleaner, safer enviroment. The owners are nice but the place really needs cleaning.

Will never go back by Pamela Buck
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/30/07
Imagine being invited to stay the night and nobody was home when you arrived. We arrived with confirmed reservations early Saturday afternoon only to find a note on the door saying "back at 5:30". Everything was locked up tight. After taking a three hour drive, we returned to find the managers there, but just with a "sorry nobody was here to check you in". We were charged full price, and the manager came knocking on the door at 12:30 pm on Sunday, telling us that if we didn't check out soon we would be charged for another day. "Corporate bylaws don't allow us to give you any more time". They broke the first law of the hospitality industry, that being, be hospitable to your guests.

Disappointing.
By Dahlia, 12/26/06
We were frankly disappointed. The place was shabby, not particularly clean, and somewhat awkwardly appointed (no comfortable place to sit, a bit cramped, etc..) Its proximity to the beach (both view and access) was its one redeeming feature. The room boasted a fireplace, but the chimney had not seen a recent cleaning, which made the keeping a fire going just about impossible. For over $100 a night, we expected more by way of comfort and cleanliness. We'll be back to Grayland, but not to the Walsh Motel.

great experiences at the Walsh
By KatarinaO, 8/18/06
My boyfriend and I have stayed at the Walsh many times, it's our favorite place to stay when we visit Grayland. We have a dog now too so it's nice that they have animal friendly cottages. The rooms that overlook the dunes are the greatest (if you don't have pet), awesome views and sounds of the ocean. The rooms in the cottages are dated but they're still cozy, plus you're probably not going to spend most of your time in your room while you're there. If there's ever a room available at the Walsh when we're in town, it's our first pick.

Reasonable Coastal Getaway
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/25/06
We loved the location and quiet off-the-beaten-path feeling of this place. The cabins aren't the most modern, but we didn't spend much time in them. Just a short walk to the beach and our labrador was able to stay with us. The fireplace was great for making s'mores after beach combing all day. One word of advice, if you're a neat freak, take your own sleeping bags and bring groceries with you. The local stores have very little and charge crazy prices.
