Hands Down the BEST Filet I have EVER been served.
Almost all restaurants are noisy, but when Eagle Waters is full, the volume in the dining room is not at all so loud you cannot hear across the table. The toasty warm crackling fireplace situated right in the middle of the action is still able to be heard. The whimsical-yet-sleek North Woods decor does not hit you over the head with a hey-you’re-in-the-backwoods-country sensibility. Lovely use of warm tones, soft lighting, and varied textures. Great patio!
As far as the Filet - Hands Down it is the very best I have ever been served. I ordered it medium rare and sliced it down the middle to find both sides the same warm red color from top to bottom. It had the mouth feel of sashimi.
Most of the staff in the kitchen and on the floor have been with the restaurant for many years, and they work together like a well-oiled engine. Proprietors Laura and Jeff remember every face and every name and so do most of the servers. It's always professional, polished and comforting almost like going home to eat.
The staff is well-versed in wine and have put together a list with plenty of big reds that are not over priced or pretentious.
The resort itself is over the top for the money with four, maybe even five, star amenities and decor. I'm absolutely perplexed that this gem hasn't been overridden by the luxury crowd - perhaps thats why I love this place. It's a hidden diamond amongst the rough.
