If only it were a bit farther from the RR tracks...
When I'm riding solo motorcycle, I'm trying to travel CHEAP. (Clean is nice; I don't want to pay extra for "fancy.") I was headed for the $39/night motel when I rode past the Quail Run, with a sign out front: "Rooms from $28.44." It got my attention.
The Quail Run is probably Late 50s / Early 60s vintage; a small place right on the main drag in LaGrande. The fixtures aren't the latest; the faux-walnut paneling is vintage, etc.
The motel's owner is also manager; that's usually a good sign. He was out of $28 rooms, but had a $30 room. ($32 and change with tax. Sweeet!) I asked him if it was clean - he said if it wasn't he'd give me double my money back. (He also stressed that they hope for repeat business.)
The room was nice and clean. The bed was comfortable.
The only downside was... the Union Pacific goes by (frequently) maybe 200 feet from the motel, just across the highway. I'd recommend weighing that heavily. (Me? I'd probably stay there again, just because I'm an obsessive bargain-hound.)
