Great lodge and ski location

Visited Sunday River and stayed at the Jordan Grand on Feb 4/5, 2008. This hotel gives you the ski lodge feel that you are looking for at a great price, but do keep in mind that it is slightly older hotel. We had a studio deluxe w/ fireplace which was very clean, comfortable and spacious. Staff was amazingly friendly. We arrived at 9am on Monday and were able to check right into the room. The hotel was very quiet the days we stayed and seemed to cater more towards adults/couples. We had a great meal (ribeye and lamb ribs) at the Grand restaurant downstairs and had fairly decent breakfast at their buffet the following morning. Service at the restaurant wasn’t “resort” top notch type service by any means but the food was excellent and that’s all I cared about after a long day of skiing.
One thing to keep in mind is that this lodge is located in the Jordan Bowl of the ski slope so it is very convenient to ski in/out, but for very beginner skiers this location might be a little difficult. From the lodge down to the lift there is an immediate drop when you ski out of the hotel. Then the only route back to the lodge is to take the lift to the Jordan Bowl peak and ski down the Lallapalozza trail. This is a green trail but the drop in at the top is quite difficult. For skiers with limited abilities (umm…my wife) it can be very difficult.
Overall, this lodge far met our expectations. Just keep in mind this isn’t a five start type of “resort” and you’ll be more than content.
