COMFORTABLE, , PLEASANT, CLEAN
I was given the choice of a single cabin, a double queen room and a single double room. When I was told the double queen mattresses had been the first to be replaced, I jumped for them. The rooms do need modernizing and a fresh coat of paint. However, as they are, they are extremely comfortable , afforable and clean.
I was tired, weary and not making much sense when I arrived, being on my way to a close friend's funeral , still another 2 hours away.
Owner/host was congenial and a bit of a curmudgeon which served me well. We bantered back and forth in good humor and he helped me find a way to fit a super large pizza into one of the hotel's refrigerators! At that moment, he was my hero.
The rooms need to be aired out, which I did when I arrived. I cranked open the windows and turned on the AC. Within a few minutes, and after a great shower, all was well in my world.
I awoke as rested as I could be and left quietly on my way.
One cautionary note: Do not eat at the large restaurant/pub next to Park Motel cabins & motel units. Our coffee there was returned twice tasting like paint. The waitress said she can't even drink it.
I ordered cajun haddock and I had 2 bites and knew my ankles and everything else on my body would be swollen within minutes from all the salt. I could not eat it. I am a healthy eater and rarely , if ever, send back food. I couldn't take another bite for the quantity of salt and the presentation of the meal. My dining companion found her fish fry, beer batter, to be good but could not eat the french fries.
The mashed potatoes were served with an ice cream scoop and the soup was said to be "homemade" yet it was made with a soup starter, and it , too, was heavily salted.
The bar seemed to be doing a good business and there was an ATM for fast cash retrievals. Other than that, I can't find another positive.
Go instead to the White Birch down the road , about 1/2 mile. Excellent dining, reasonable prices, tasty food, takes a bit longer to receive meal(10 -15 minutes but worth every minute), very clean dining area and very nice staff. A terric little gem in the middle of the Adirondack Mountains. The Haddock Florentine made a terribly difficult day more restful and certainly delicious! Cooked to perfections.
The penne pasta was super and the entire bill , with soda and tax was less than $20. How can you beat that?
Stay at the Park Motel and Cabins, eat at the White Birch . :)
