Keep Looking!

I usually like to go places that I have seen pictures of online. When I phoned the Family Fun Cabins I asked the owner if she had a web site. She told me "We don't find it necessary. She said that with word of mouth they were always full. Well....I fell for that. Imagine how surprised I was when we arrived and we were the only ones there on a Friday night! The outside of the cabins looked o.k. We opened the door and my children and my husband just stopped still and then slowly turned their heads to look at me. This place was not what we imagined. Keep in mind that we are an avid family of campers so lush is not a necessity, we do like it rustic. I had expected rustic. This was just dirty. In the corner of the kitchen/living room area was the water heater. As the weekend wore on we learned it was not only our water heater but it supported another cabin as well. When the neighbors ran water our pipes clanked and our the water heater chugged. The sink/counter was stained and everything was chipping and peeling and in disrepair. The shower was so disgusting we decided to keep our own dirt and not add theirs. Luckily there are nice place to swim in the Adirondacks. The futon in the kitchen opened up and we found ourselves sleeping 1 1/2 feet away from the water heater. Off the kitchen were two bedrooms. There were no doors on the rooms. One room had a curtain rod hanging across it with a sheer curtain hanging down. The curtains in the rest of the cabin were in a need of a good wash. The blankets were full of holes and torn and just a real mess. These cabins have no a/c. The TV is a tiny portable on top of the fridge and gets 3-4 channels but only gets one channel well. Not a big deal for us, we only use the TV to look at upcoming weather. We would not go back here. The price was 65.00/night and for these accommodations, this was outrageous.
