Well to start, there was someone elses hair all over my room when I moved in. There were bugs in the room (not bedbugs but bugs). The room and bathroom are TINY. The rooms are old and smell musty with gas heaters so the entire room is dried out. Even with that heater the bathroom can get very cold, though I would have expected more air circulation between the room and the bathroom because the bathroom door did not shut.
The owners are very friendly but that doesnt help when your room is dirty/old. They do allow pets apparently and have a cheap rate but I would stay somewhere else if you want a good nights sleep.
This could be a great little motel if the owners would keep up the property a little better. It is in a good location, not great. The rooms are dated and slightly dingy. The doors and walls have scratches and holes in them from years of use and abuse. The carpet is really old and not pleasant. The room had a really strong musty odor. The locks on the doors are hard to use. There is very little lighting in the room, so that adds to the dingy feelng. The bathroom is so small that if you are slightly overweight then I would guess you would touch the sink and the toilet because there is literally no space in the bathroom. The sink is very low to the ground. The window A/C unit is loud and does not seem to cool the second bedroom well. The small kitchen is extremely dated. The couch was really dirty, worn and there was no structure to the cushions, so one would just sink to the bottom. This is not a place where you would want to spend a lot of time in the room. If you just need a place to sleep that is very close to town, then this would be an OK motel. I would never come back here. That being said, the owners are very lovely and kind.
Stayed one night in June 2011 at this small family run motel, a mile at most west of the village center. Accommodations were modest, albeit quaint, but this is an older "countryside" place and one would expect that upon arrival. However for most (and at the price) this place will do the job, especially for a quick, quiet getaway. A couple minutes' walk will take you to a shared beach where you could see sunrise and/or sunset.
All I have to say is that this place is great. The rooms are clean, the host/hostess are very sincere and friendly and we were treated as family. It may not be as grand as some of the other resorts available in the area but I would go no place else.
Even after my family moves to Arizona this year, I still plan on booking my vacation in Michigan and staying at the Port Austin Motel.
I really liked how the port austin motel was closs to everything in port austin. Granted, it is a small town, but you can walk anywhere, and it is close to many of the town's "attractions." the people that run the motel are SO nice, and friendly and they are very helpful with advising you where to go eat, or where to go to have fun. my family had a great time at the port austin motel.
