Lakeside Motor Lodge & Apartments, Port Austin

Too expensive for what we got. Last guests hair in bath tub. Missing towel rack in bathroom. Too hot and not thermostat in room. Paper thin walls and too noisy. Group of drunks that was staying there singing Amazing Grace till 2am and the managment did nothign to curtail it.

We recently visited the Lakeside Motor Lodge after being refered by a friend. We had only a couple days to get away, but were very excited never the less. We did not want to travel a long distance but wanted some where to enjoy just peace & quiet. Well we found it in Port Austin's Lakeside Motor Lodge ! From the time we checked in everything was perfect, Staff were always friendly & willing to help, best of all it was quiet & relaxing. Within walking distance were great little small town restaurants, shops, grocery store & yummy bakery! The pool right outside our door was clean & well kept, the perfect spot for a couple days of R & R. Very much like a Mayberry town, everyone was friendly, everyone always had a smile & a "Hello" as you passed by. The entire town of Port Austin offers a quiet,friendly, very welcoming atmosphere & we look forward to returning next summer. We are very happy we had the opportunity to visit & reccomend it highly ! My only comment on improvement would be to add AC to the cabins, they are so....adorable & would love to stay in one on our next stay, however with 90* temp. it was just a little to stuffy. Our hotel room was great, newly remodeled with great AC !! Thanks to the entire staff & we look forward to next summer

stumbled upon port austin about 20 yrs. ago while visiting relatives in bay city. and i live in columbus, ohio. have stayed at lakeside motor lodge every trip and it's been great. several years i made the trip 3 or 4 times. but may & october for sure. lakeside motor lodge has best, friendliest facility. fantastic pool. plenty to do outdoors & quiet times also. fantastic sunsets. fishing is excellant. over the years, several friends & relatives have also stayed at lakeside motor lodge. always plenty to do in the thumb. 6 hr. drive, 350 miles, from columbus, ohio. and i make it at least once a year for many years. in fact, my nephew & i are planning another trip in may '10. lakeside motor lodge & the thumb are highly recommended.

Vacation in the Thumb of Michigan Current mood: refreshed Category: Travel and Places Just returned from Port Austin, a lovely spot on Lake Huron. The oldest county town is rich in history and presents a warm and friendly atmosphere in which to shop and live. A spectacular view of the Port Austin Reef Lighthouse is available from the massive break wall. Fine dining, quaint shops and sandy beaches will keep you coming back. That's from michigan.org I always stay at Lakeside, a really nice resort run by Todd Murawski. You're lucky if you can get into it though, people book their week at least a year in advance. The ice cream at Finan's is old fashioned and well made - they have a counter! And the people who work there are very nice. The girls who work the party store on the other corner are also very nice - they are patient, too, with kids, and they have almost anything you might need - flashlights, batteries, tape, etc. The sunsets are breathtaking, the air in the morning is sweet, there are no bugs and it's sooooo quiet during the night. I love Port Austin! I am going back this weekend, and I think I'll live there after retirement. If you can buy a house NOW, there are plenty available at the moment. Oh, and one of Port Austin's BEST THINGS is that it's only a few hours from Detroit but you feel a million miles away. I never saw the news (much) and I didn't read the paper and I never touched a computer. THAT'S vacation.

Absolutely love this place and the city!!! great small town, everything is within walking distance !! The pool is a nice feature for the days you dont feel like going to the beach,and for the days you do the beach is within walking distance!! the staff is always so friendly!! I suggest going there the week of the 4th of july! Fireworks, parade, and just a ton of people down there ready for a great time!!

I first visited Lakeside as a small child with my family 38+ years ago and have gone back repeatedly ever since. Very laid back, excellent staff, and small town charm. Not many places where you can still relive your childhood, but this is one of them. I'm second generation and I know my daughters (one 19 and one 8 months) will carry on the tradition. You'll talk with the grandkids of people who visited those years back. If thats not an endorsement I don't know what is. Yes the public beach got " moved" many years ago for the public boat launch, but the new one is much bigger and very nice! Lakeside's pool is awesome for kids. My daughter spent 8 hours a day in it. Hope to book a cabin every year so my youngest daughter can enjoy what I have throughtout the years. Surprisingly good restaurants, awesome hardware store (forgot something? don't worry!), ice cold mugs of root beer at Finan's, golf (kooky, putt-putt and the real kind, very close), fishing, horseback riding and more. I could go on and on. Stop and smell the roses in Port Austin! (Lakeside Motel especially!). Am I biased? You bet. Going there this weekend (06/23/07) and I can't wait. Was taking the wife and kids until my mother and uncle found out. Now it's a larger family vacation. See you around the barbeque pit!
