This was a clean, well-located hotel in the Mad River Valley. Good breakfasts and helpful owners who know a lot about the area. I would definitely recommend the Golden Lion.
I'd rate this 4.5 stars out of 5.
Are these reviews for the right place? The Golden Lion motel near Sugarbush, Vermont? It doesn't sound like the same place as when we stayed. The rooms when I went last spring were basic, but clean, and the breakfast was fresh, fast, and hearty. You can't get the same deal for the same price anywhere around there. My brother and I are going back in Feb.
I can't add too much more than the previous reviewer did. It's seriously just awful all around. From the musty smell, extremely dirty carpets to the warped bathroom door, nasty shower and stained blankets, there's nothing good about this place. Keep your socks and clothes on at all times. And it was either freezing cold or very hot, never in between.
"Full breakfast" is a sad joke. Shriveled up, pellet-sized gray sausages, warm milk, and dried up eggs. Bring your own granola bar instead. They wouldn't accommodate keeping our luggage there for half day, even though there was only 1 other room taken. They should pay us to stay there. Stay anywhere else but here. Please.
We liked the location at the base of the Sugarbush access road. It is all downhill after that. The room had a musty smell. The heat was either on high or off. So, we either sweated or froze. My wife pulled an extra blanket out of a drawer to use the first night, when the room was very cold. Only to find the blanket was moldy. Did I forget to say that the "king sized bed" was really a double. The bathroom door was so warped that it didn't close completely. The shower spray could not be adjusted from the thin stream of water. The included breakfast was served on paper plates the size of a salad plate. The plural in scrambled eggs was not per serving, while the 2 sausages were bland and smaller than 1 cooked Jimmy Dean sausage. On our last night I asked if we could leave our bags in the room while we skied a half day, I was told that check out time was noon. Even though we were one of 2 occupied rooms midweek. Make sure your worst enemy does what I did - pay before inspecting the room.
