Davis Motel and Housekeeping Cottages, Schroon Lake

If you enjoy paying $85 for a room with no refrigerator, no microwave, and a toilet that leaks with each flush, this is the place for you. Adding to the charm is no pool, no one available in the office except at check in. Another family member experienced no running water in their sink with bathroom tiles missing in many places. It's true that the place has been sold, and the new owners care nothing about upkeep. Stay away!

The upkeep has gone down hill - The cabins once were taken care of but this year lack alot. The word at the information center is that it is sold so they seem to want to get the money they can now and put nothing into it anymore. It was always a good place to stay on the lake and now it seems to have gone forever. The upkeep as I said has gone down hill and the concern from the owers is gone forever. I hope they sell because if not they will loose alot of business due to the face that they only want your money and don't care anymore. I arrived and was in tears that I wasn't able to get my deposit back for the extra room I had requested. This is not a good way to start your stay. This only got worse as the week went on. Enjoy while you can. I won't go back even if they were recomended by WOL.

If you like reasonable rates, cleanliness, meticulous grounds, have the Adirondack experience and hosts that treat you like you are special then you want to stay at the Davis Motel & Cottages. I have been staying there since the year "2005" even though I have my own land and cabin in the area. I return as well as many others that return every year to the Davis Motel & Cottages. The rooms are very clean, each one having its own special decor and theme. the efficiencies are well stocked with everything from kithen linens, utencisl, toasters, coffee pots, etc. The cottages are lovely, each one having its own uniques decor and views of the lake and the mountains. they have screened in porches, picnic tabels, bargeques and tables and chairs on each of the porches. You can see the love and care that goes into this special place as there are personal touches throughout the rooms, efficiencies, cottages and landscape. There are outdoor fire pits for enjoying a nice campfire under the stars, flower beds all over the land, docks to fish from, a beach with a clean, sandy bottom, boats & motors for rent, a swimming pool, picnic tables & bargeques place around the grounds for anyone to use as each cottage has its own. There is plenty of acreage for your childres to play safely. I you prefer there is a public dock for boating, fishing, public beach, beautiful park and tennis courts within a mile or so from the motel. I am also amazed at the largest variety of pine trees, shrubs and bushes on the land. You will love your hosts-Tom & Linda-as they want to see that you enjoy your stay, have everything you need, know where to go, what events may be taking place, whats to see and do in the area and know how to give directions to go to different places. If you want peace and privacy they respect your wishes and let you enjoy the solitude and beauty of this magnificent Adricondack Motel & Cottages. If you need anything they are there and see that you are accommodated immediately. I have stayed in at least 3 different rooms, 2 different efficiencies as well as 3 different cottage and have loved them all and been very comfortable. You can get cottages that not only have a screend in porch but also open air porches with swings on them that are great for anytime of day or night. You can stay down near the water and enjoy the pation that overlooks the lake. Once you have experienced a stay at the Davis Motel & Cottages you will want to return and spend not only you overnight stays but your vactions here as well. Take it from one hwo had their own cabin yet chose to stay in one of the cottages or rooms and I do stay here 3 to 4 days out of every month as well as 1 to 2 week long vacations in the cottages. I have also made friends with some of the other guests as many of us return year after year. Springtime is lovely with all its promises of new growth and renewal. Fall is absolutely breathtaking. Winter is just as great with good ice fishing, snow mobiling and many nearby ski areas. Don't take my word for, take a few days to stay there and enjoy the beautiful views and lovely grounds with your hosts Tom & Linda that will treat like a friend, accommodate you in any way they can to see that your stay is the best you have ever experienced and get the real fee of Adirondack living. That must be why they have guests who return month after month and year after year-Because It Is The Best Accommadations You Will Find In The Adirondacks and you too will soon find that you will be returning to the Davis Motel & Cottages, to see your friends & hosts Tom & Linda, season after season and year after year.

The price was right even though it can be tough to find rooms in that area during Americade. You have a choice of rooms or cottages. The buildings are not new and are in keeping with the feel of staying on the lake for the summer(if you have similar childhood memories). I stayed in a room that was clean and comfortable and the matresses were new and firm. The owners were very friendly and attentive to the guests. The atmosphere was so friendly that it drew guests together which was a nice change from the norm of ignoring your neighbors. There are several restaurants in the immediate area that were quite good (moderate prices) and of course you could find more upscale if traveled a little further. The scenery was wonderful and I enjoyed watching the sunrise on the lake. Five minutes away in town is a beautiful public beach (free) if you prefer lake to pool (a little cool in June). It is convenient to Lake George (Americade) but allows you to get in some quiet time away from the excitement. The whole area is beautiful.

The motel and grounds need an update. The property was an ADK camp so the grounds were really pretty. Years of tree removal without replanting has stolen the charm from this property. It feels cold and outdated. I miss the smell of pine trees when I get out of my car. The facilities are old -but- ok for a short stay. They really need some money invested into them. Stone walls by the lake were knocked down by the privious owner. This ruined a skinny sandy beach that once sat under pine trees. The roads are crumbling and as I said earlier the trees have been removed throughout the property. Beds in the motel are uncomfortable, the rooms themselevs are old and in need of remodeling. We miss the slide. This motel could be a great place if the owner continues to correct years of neglect. My fear is that this property will be lost to private development. That would be a shame for all of us who've stayed here and for the town itself which really needs an economic shot in the arm. I'll still visit but stay somewhere else until improvements are made.
