stay away at all costs
By ,
Just a horrible experience. The rooms are tiny, the beds are small and very uncomfortable. you have to share a bathroom with others down the hall. sleep is out of the question because of the paper thin walls and the live entertainment. if you have any complaint y ou can forget about it. the manager is extremely rude and only cares about the bar crowd. do youself a huge favor and stay somewhere else.

Outstanding food, service and value
By ,
We had a family anniversary event at the restaurant and they did an outstanding job from appetizers to main buffet and dessert. Great food, excellent service and a very fair price with a wonderful view. We stayed a night and the room was dated but functional. Also had an individual menu dinner the night before and it was excellent in all respects . Was even pleasantly surprised at the quality of the Martini which was as good as I make for myself. We look forward to returning as often as possible.

Wonderful meal, and world-class sunset
By ,
We've eaten here many times over the years, and in that time it has transformed from an average place with lots of fried seafood, a salad bar and other old standards, to an outstanding restaurant with fine food, creatively prepared by top local chefs. This week, we visited again, and I ordered grouper with baby heirloom tomatoes and risotto. It was amazing -- as good as anything at Tin Pan Galley (another great place up the road). I would recommend Rainbow Shores Hotel to anyone in the area who wants a break from the usual offerings, and wants to enjoy a good meal. Now, I have also heard the kitchen can get backed up when it gets crowded. We were seated quickly, and were served everything in a timely manner. Not too rushed and not too slow. As for those complaining about Rainbow's prices and the changes, their reviews tell it all. They miss the salad bar. Really? I can't think of a decent restaurant that still has a salad bar. So keep up the good work, Rainbow. We'll be back, and we're telling people about it.

Terrible food, and service
By ,
My family and I use to go to Rainbow Shore restaurant frequently, but it has been years since we last went. They use to have a salad bar that was always very good, but now it is gone. The menu has completely changed since we last went. The entree's on the menu are higher end meals. The entree's were all over $20. We waited 45 minutes to get our salads, and an hour and half for our meals. We all were not sastified with our meals. I had ordered the stuffed haddock with spinach and tomato's and it wasn't too bad, but the amount of food wasn't worth $23. My mother and sister ordered the veal, and were very disapointed with the taste, but the rice was very good. My other sister ordered the seafood escapade, and the menu said it came with lobster but there was no lobster. We were all very dissapointed with our dining experience and will never eat at the Rainbow Shores again.

Late Meal
By ,
Our reservation was for 6:45. We were seated quickly and placed our order. 20 minutes later our salad arrived. We did not see our waitress for another 45 minutes. Another drink was ordered and did not arrive until 8:15 and it was not the correct drink. We then had to look for our waitress to inquire about our meals. This was not easy. We had terrible service for the cost of our meals. A trip to see the manager was of no help, since she was rude and self-serving with no apologies. When the waitress finally arrived she was of no help and made faces at us. The meal finally arrived. The broiled fish was dry and tasteless. Ketchup did not help and our side dishes of cabbage salad and fries turned out to be mashed potatoes. No one demonstrated any kind of sympathy or concern for our feelings. They will never have our patronage again. 4 former customers.

Great food, excellent service, beautiful view
By ,
The location is absolutely beautiful. We went on a Friday night and there was live music on the lawn. We had before dinner drinks on the lawn and enjoyed the view. We made reservations, which was a good idea as it was very busy. We ordered the prime rib and seafood which were both excellent. The server, I believe her name was Tammi , was pleasant and knowledgeable. She did warn us that meals were taking a bit long to come from the kitchen. We did wait for about 1/2 hour after finishing our salads, but she came back several times and made sure we had drinks. She also provided us with complimentary plate of garlic bread with a garlic cheese dip that was incredible. After dinner we sat on the lawn to watch the sunset over the lake. We will go back on a Thursday for the all you can eat crab leg special!

WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED??
By ,
I have been to the Rainbow Shores Restaurant 3 times in the past 6 weeks and the meals and service have been fabulous. Twice we ate on the porch behind the bar and the sunset view is terrific. One time, with a larger party, we sat on the deck on a Sunday evening and it ranks as one of our best nights so far this year. The food is first class from beginning to end and the service was great. My family and I eat out on a regular basis from Wellsley Island to Syracuse when eating "locally". How does that song go? "Nobody does it better!". Congratulations to all involved and a big thank you for bringing a First Class restaurant to the North Country.

A great place to eat and visit with family
By ,
We met our daughter and her husband for a quiet, delicious Sunday afternoon dinner. The service was patient while we drank tea and waited for them to arrive. Then we enjoyed delicious meals, served hot, and with the tea and coffee coming continuously. The desserts were excellent. The view of the lake, with the waves crashing on the shore and the sun reflecting off the water, was spectacular. We will return. By the way, keep driving down the pitted, dirt road. You WILL get there and it's worth it.
