I will continue going back every year.
By Jim, 5/27/10
I grew up coming to what initially was called Windward and is now called Aalsmeer, in order to move it up in the alphabetical listing of hotels. The proprieter is a great guy who has been involved in the operation of this property since he was able to walk. It has not changed much in the 40 + years I have been coming and that is one of the things I most appreciate about the property. It provides none of the things that would take away from relaxing and enjoying the lake and getting a restful vacation. Neither do I want or need it to change it takes me back to my childhood and thats what I need to recharge my batteries so when I must reenter the "real" world I can do so with fond memories of lake Otsego and Aalsmeer.

Been going to this same place for 19 years
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/29/10
I have been staying in the same cabin since I was 4 years old and I love it. It is right on the lake and not far from town. Aalsmeer has been around for many years and what the people in the previous reviews failed to understand is that you are paying for the location not the accomodations which are not as bad as they have made it seem. There are no amemities because this is not a hotel. It is camping. There are separate bedrooms in each cabin, kitchen and full bathroom with hot water, as well as a cable hook up for those who would like to bring a TV. I personally go to Aaslmeer to get away from the everyday worries and there is a phone in the office and they are more than happy to bring you messages if need be. I will continue to go every year and look forward to it year round.

won't go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/3/09
the location IS lovely, but the pace has deteriorated even further than since the two previous reviews were written (wish I'd found them). In addition to the continued practice of providing NO amenities--no phone, no sundries, no drier, no clock--and all the inconveniences mentioned in the other reviews--the motel room we stayed in had a serious mildew problem, prbably from the carpet, which looked like it might have been installed during the Johnson administration. The bathroom was clean (not mildewed) and the water pressure good, but the tile and fixtures were old and shabby-looking. I would have been content to stay here for, maybe, a quarter of what we paid ($160.00). Fortunately, we only had to stay here for one night. In the future, we'll make our reservations early so we can stay at the other notel we were able to find for the other nights of our stay.

stingy for the price
By mimi, 8/10/07
the location is nice- near the opera house and the Fenimore Art Museum and an easy ride into town!nice for a few hours at the lake, although the beach at Glimmerglass State Park is far superior! The facility has been around for quite a while and is not as well maintained as it should be. There is no telephone, shampoo, hair-dryer, radio-clock (or any timepiece),or coffee-maker in the units- haven't experienced these lacking anywhere for decades! I would not go back for the price!
