Royal Coachman Motel, Shady Cove

I was going to give 1 star, but because the service people were so nice I give 2 stars. Here is how it went: We 2 adults and 2 children checked in to our river view room #20. Right away we noticed the rustic mismatched and crammed space. We appreciate the attempt at getting a sofa bed to fit in this room, but it was not successful. There was no counter space or surface to place anything. The power outlets were all worn out (loose) and had expanders plugged into them because there were so few outlets. There was a crusty wash cloth over the shower curtain from the previous occupants. There was hair in the bath tub, and while removing it we noticed the distinct foul odor of urine on the shower curtain. There were no screen doors on the sliding door to the porch (the manager said they are getting screens soon). The room reeked of cigarette smoke even tho we requested non smoking. Basically the place is old and in need of many upgrades, some of which would not cost that much. We requested a different room for the following night since we were too crammed in #20. The next room they gave us had completely shot beds (sloped, caved in, etc). Finally we got another room with a bed good enough for us and another one barely good enough for the kids. Again the room was rank with cigarrette stink. Also, the water temperature constantly changes (like an old houses water does). The towels are very small, abrasive, worn, and stinky. I would not recommend this motel to anyone that can afford to stay at the Edgewater or elsewhere. We have stayed at the Edgewater (very nice!) before but thought we would try to save some money because it couldn't be that bad right? WRONG. The manager said they just took over a couple months ago and are trying to get the place into good shape, but I am reluctant to believe that they have the notion or the budget to get things up to sub par standards. I f you just want a bottom dollar experience thats only slightly better than roughing it in a hollowed out tree, this is your place. I must also restate that the managers were extremely friendly despite their lack of ability to accommodate us to our satisfaction.
