Do NOT stay here!
By eva, 8/1/11
Filthiest place I've ever been to! There was filthy carpet in the bedroom, water damage on the walls, blinds that wouldn't close, dead bugs and spiderwebs on the window and just when we thought that it couldn't get worse we saw the carpeted bathroom ... mold covered shower, filthy toilet, and a huge urine stain around it.

We REALLY should've listened to the reviews...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/18/11
This place is just about as dirty and cheaply made up a "motel" as one could hope to find without actually renting bare-bones cabins at a campground with dirt floors. No opportunity to cheap out on amenities, carpet, decor or furniture was missed! So, in the interest of respect to the owner for getting the maximum return on their rental property dollar, congratulations. Other highlights included: - Absolutely the hardest mattress I ever slept on; felt more like a box spring. - Found rubbish under the bed from who knows how long since the people that left it there had been gone. - REALLY gnarly hair and filth left in the sink and shower drains from previous guests. - The shower stall itself is a pre-fab bit of plastic that one could easily lift and carry about with them. Water pressure was okay, though. - The outside lights stay on right outside the windows all night. This would not be a problem if the drapes in the rooms were thick enough to keep the baleful yellow glare out of one's eyes long enough to get to sleep (as if you thought were actually gonna get to sleep on that mattress!) We got the room to stay over after the Finger Lakes Wine Festival, which is always first rate, but I should've gotten a better room, sooner than I did. Paying more than $120 a night for this, I truly do feel ripped off. The people who run the place seem quite nice, but they REALLY need to put some of that money they're making back into the product, presentation and preparation. The rooms could use a good scrubbing down with Lysol, a complete facelift to get that Salvation Army decor out of there, and someone with some kind of decorating sense needs to just re-do the trim, drapes, art and general appearance of the rooms, for goodness' sake. All this coupled with a far less-than-stellar meal at an establishment quite close to this motel really makes me wonder who there in Watkin's Glen is looking out for how well guests coming to big venue events are being looked after. Ultimately, this was far and away the worst money I have ever spent on lodging anywhere; needless to say I would not go back if the room was free. I would go so far as to say that I'd think twice about staying over in the town after this experience, which is likely unfair to the town, but once bitten makes one twice shy.

Don't even consider this place. Never again!
By Michelle, 9/14/10
We stayed on race weekend, which was our biggest mistake. It was the only place in a 50 mile area that had rooms (no camp sites were available either). We were quoted $89/night over the phone when we made the reservations. When we got there, they charged us $289 for two nights! We realized this when we got in the room, and went back up to complain and were told that is the rate that everyone is paying and we wouldn't get refunded. We couldn't leave because there was no where else to go. We heard the same story from our neighbors! The room had an overwhelming smell of mildew, so we tried our hardest to only be in there to sleep. The carpets were probably as old as me, and were super dirty. The linens were clean, but I refused to step foot in the shower. The owner was polite, but ripped us off with a smile on his face. There's a huge hole in the middle of the parking lot that is covered in cones and plastic chairs. They had people "clean" the rooms each day, but you can only do so much with a moldy motel that hasn't been updated since the 1950s. For the love of God, please don't give this motel your money!

WORST of the worst
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/19/10
We just stayed one nite for the Wine Fest(great time), and were surprised by two other couples who said they stayed before. This place is disgusting. Moldy shower curtains, no soap in the shower itself. No outlets in the bathroom. Filmy mirror. Carpet that had to be 20+ years old. Location was good, but that was the only thing. Oh yea, parking is extremely tight, and in the middle of the lot there is a hole with orange cones and two broken outside chairs on top of it. Air conditioner was like have a fan on and it was hot and humid outside. We were afraid to pull the sheets down, and only layed on top of the blanket. Went to bed late, and got up early just to get out of this rat hole. Never again.

Friendly No-Tell Mo-tel
By Robin, 2/26/10
Friendly owner. Other reviews are quite correct about the cleanliness. Used shampoo packets in the bathroom. Sink cracked into bits. No outlets in bedroom. A very old, scarily wired lamp from around the 40s. Walls appear to have original paint as well as original handprints. Good points: nice, hot water with plenty of pressure, lots of space to unpack, friendly owner, cheap in the winter ($40 a night), free wi-fi and cable, room has microwave and a fridge/freezer, and the location is very convenient with BK right across the street, a gas station diagonal from it, and Dunkin' Donuts less than a minute's walk the other way. If I needed a place to stay in a pinch for cheap, this would be it, I guess. It's definitely not the Ritz, though.

BATES MOTEL
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/9/09
When we first walked into the room we were hit with the most disgusting odor you could imagine. Luckily I brought spray air freshener that I had to use frequently to get rid of the odor. The refrigerator was covered in mold. The bathtub has black scum that went beyond a bathtub ring. We had to put to put a hand towel on the bottom of the tub to take a shower so we did not have to step on the filth. We slept with our clothes on including our socks so we did not have much exposure to the dirty sheets. The electrical boxes were nailed to the wall which is a safey violatoin. The rooms did not appear to have been cleaned in a very long time. The carpeting was very old and dirty. We got stuck staying there because we could not get reservations anywhere else. I am suprised that the place has not been shut down by the department of health. After I stayed there I read the previous bad reviews. I would not recommend this place. I hope people read the reviews before they even think about staying at the "Bates Motel".

Worse than I expected
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/21/09
This is an extremely dirty hotel. We made last minute reservations on race weekend and there was a reason why this motel still had vacancies. It would take a minimum of effort to bring this motel up to acceptable standards. The rug was sticky dirty and the walls needed a coat of paint or at least a scrub down. I'd rather have camped on the cold, hard ground than stay in this dump. Should have listened to the reviews. I would not have given it even 1 star, but that was not an option. STAY AWAY!!

Bed bugs! Owner jerks!
By John, 5/30/09
Stay away from the hotel! The room has bed bugs!! We found the bed bugs and showed the evidence to the owner. He agreed to fully refund. However, instead of refunding money to my credit card, he charged it again and again. (Not sure if he intentionally did that.) Eventually, he "figured out" how to refund money. However, he played another trick and did not refund the tax charged to us. When I called back in one week, he refused it and said "You make me unhappy!" How ridiculous it is! Stay away from the hotel as far as possible.
