Reviews for Mansion View Bed & Breakfast and Special Event Cen: 3
Relaxed Elegance at its' finest
By A Yahoo Contributor, 8/5/11
As former residents of Toledo, my boyfriend and I have stayed in many 'chain' hotels when coming "home" to visit friends and family. It is usually a lackluster stay where we can't wait to leave a shoddy room devoid of personality and comfort. This 5-star Bed & Breakfast has completely changed this for us, and we now have a home away from home.
With less than a week notice, I was able to make a reservation to stay in the Secor Bridal Room for 2 nights. The manager Tim was incredibly flexible and accomodating as traffic forced us to arrive much later than the established 'check-in time'. He greeted us with a smile, stories and homemade banana walnut muffins. After an interesting tour of the Inn, we knew that our visit would be brimmed with relaxed elegance. He highlighted the architectural details that earned it a place on the National Historic Register and the ammenities that have earned our loyalty to be repeat guests in the future. Tim pointed out where we could grab a drink or snack and let us know how to get a hold of him if needed. He demonstrated the true definition of graceful hospitality - available, welcoming yet not hovering or intrusive.
The Secor Room exuded the same the same beauty and magnificence that we experienced in the common areas (that are anything but common). Tim offered to let us select any room that we wanted, just in case we preferred a different room once we saw them in person...and although all were breath taking, we couldn't resist the Secor Room with ornate plaster molding on the ceiling and the leaded glass windows that created the most beautiful rainbow prisms dancing about the room in the morning. The bathroom was glorious and had both a deep soaking tub and a white subway tiled shower with the highest ceilings that I've ever seen. A wide array of tolietries were provided...and the room delivered in every way conceivable.
As we had family and friends to visit, we left and were provided our own keys to come and go as we pleased. We felt safe and comfortable at every moment...even when returning at 3 am where we sat on the expansive, comfortable and luxerious wrap-around covered porch.
Both mornings, Tim prepared and served us gourmet breakfasts. Morning 1 was berry and yogurt parfaits, ham, mushroom and cheese quiches, english muffins, bagels, juice and cinnamon-infused coffee. Morning 2 included asparagus, mushroom and sausage omlettes among other delicious offerings. We didn't need to eat again until late evening. It definitely beats the Frosted Flakes and stale donuts offered at most other Toledo hotels.
There are too many other highlights to describe, including location (heart of Toledo's arts community...close to downtown...and highways), friendly nature of other guests and common rooms that are anything but common. The Victorian meets Arts & Crafts ambiance transports you to another time.
Unlike many others who posted and experienced this via a groupon, we paid full price ($149 a night)...and it was worth every shiny cent.
This home is where the heart is, and we will be back the next time life brings us back to Toledo.
This is not a review from the standpoint of service, cleanliness, etc. - but rather to pass on my experience of having lived high up in a garret rooms in the 60's. My bedroom overlooked what once was the carriage house in the back. A grand place ...I wearily trudged up 3 flights of a gorgeous wooden staircase each evening after my workday. I liked to pretend I was the mistress of a grand mansion. It was so beautiful.
I loved the location of the hotel. It is right across the freeway from JEEP plant! Belief me in snow it counts. Service, Service and Location, Location and Location!
I ended up extending my stay. I dont know how they can give these low room rates!
40 minutes from Detroit Airport!
Thank you for all your hosptality. We had a great time and look forward to doing this again!
