Dollar Inn, Portage

This was our last stop heading home to Ohio from South Dakota. The room smelled bad as did the tenants who were living next door. All I could think of was 'bed bugs" although they seemed to be scarce! Was overjoyed to leave there the next morning. we won't be back anytime soon!

I stayed here while driving out to Syracuse, NY from Iowa. I was very tired and desperate for somewhere to stay. I was traveling on somewhat of a budget, and I was delighted to find a place to stay that was so cheap. I had mentally prepared myself for a crappy hole-in-the-wall motel. BUT NO. This place was great! Nothing fancy, but exactly what I needed. A clean, comfortable, and very affordable place to rest my weary head! I was not harassed in any way about checking out, probably due to the fact that I was aware of the check-out time, and I'm not inconsiderate enough to expect housecleaning to accomodate me being lazy and self-absorbed. I definitely plan to stay here every time I head East.

I think the Dollar Inn is a good motel. We stay there every year when we visit Indiana. It's a convenient place to stay to all the major attractions. We will be back again this year!! I would recommend this Motel to others. The room was clean when we checked in and the service was great.

There is nothing i liked about the place, the front desk person was not polite and cheerful like you get when you go to other hotels, yes there is a 11:00 am check out, but if somebody doesnt answer the phone to there room you dont kick them out, you charge them for another day and that is how it should be. that has always been like that in "ALL" motels an hotels in the years i have been in that i have traveled, and in all my years this one is the worst i have seen, i would not recommend this hotel to noone, not even let my dog stay their. an if you asked me if i had to stay their again i would rather stay in a paper box, but jokin.. I think next time i will take my chances at the super 8 hotel- i hear its better for their price too!! i guess it mite be worth the money, when you have no choices an short on cash or displaced from your home due to the weather..

To the last person who wrote a review of Dollar Inn in Portage, I would just like to point things out. The desk clearly states that check out time is at 11 am. There are about 5 signs total throughout the office that state the exact same thing. The maids DO NOT JUST come banging at your door at 11 am. They call 3 times first, and then if there is no answer, they come to the room, to clean it for the next guest. If you KNOW the checkout time is at 11. Then you should be OUT by 11 plain and simple. They do their best to accomadate you, and take care of the rooms for their guests. If your looking for luxury, the Radisson is about 5 miles away.
