The Motel has new management now. It is so peaceful here. I will come and stay here again. A good place to go and get away from it all!

Filthist Motel I've ever been in.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/25/11
I would not recommend this disgusting motel to anyone. I was traveling from Pennsylvania to Colorado and needed to stop for the night. The price was $62.00. The room was absolutely filthy and smelled of cat piss and mildew and there were flies and various insects everywhere. The carpet was dirty and the bedspread was actually damp. It was 95 degrees and humid and the air conditioner was located near the bathroom way above the sink near the ceiling and barely functioning. You had to climb up on the counter to access it. I couldn't stand the odor, filthiness or the heat so I went to the office to get a refund and the manager/owner refused to give me one. He denied that the room was as filthy as it was. Unfortunately, I paid cash for this abomination. I recommend using a credit card anytime you plan on staying at a motel/hotel so you have the option of stopping payment. I travel quite a bit and rarely seek a refund but when I do, I've never had a problem getting it. His wife was nice when I rented the room but remained in the back holding a child, not wanting a confrontation. Frankly, I felt sorry for her as she's probably had to deal with customers asking for refunds frequently. I ended up walking out of the office without my $62.00 while this guy was yelling at me to give him the keys to the room. As I walked outside, I threw them as hard as I could away from the motel. I ended up driving to Gretna and stayed at a Super 8 for the same price. I recommend avoiding this nightmare at all costs.

Should be Condemned!
By Hector, 8/24/11
On 8/15/11, while on a trip from Henderson, Nevada to West Lafayette, Indiana, a member of our party fell sick and we had to stop and stay in Underwood, Iowa. My family and I rented 2 rooms (217 & 218), at the Underwood Motel and immediately knew we were in trouble. When we went into the rooms, they were both infested with spiders and smelled of mildew. I needed ice and looked for an ice bucket. I found one in room 217 which had black mold in it with no liner, and the one in 218 was clean but had no plastic liner. I went to the office and spoke to the manager. I asked for a plastic bag for the ice bucket and was given 5 used Walmart grocery bags. I went back to the room and tried to settle in. All of a sudden my wife jump up in bed and found a spider crawling on the sheets. She killed the spider and we attempted to sleep. All of a sudden a loud rumbling and howling sound came from beneath the floor which sounded like a problem with the water pipes. This sound persisted for about 20 minutes before stopping. Then about a hour later the sound started again and came on 5 or 6 more times throughout the night. I confronted the manager about the noise, the room condition and our dissatisfaction and he made no attempts to remedy any of the problems. This is by far the worst waste of $135.50 I have ever spent. I can best describe this motel as a place where robbers, rapists and murderers come to stay. If you can at all avoid it, stay away! Also if anyone in Iowa can tell me who I can contact to report this place officially, it would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't recommend it!!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/10/11
During the Missouri River flooding, I was evacuated from my home in Council Bluffs which was quite an emotional ordeal. The price was good compared to other motel/apartments in the area, but you get what you pay for. The male manager of the motel was quite rude - his wife was nice. He argued with people who he was supposed to be providing a service for. The rooms were full of centipedes and cockroaches. The rooms were smelly. I made sure the room was as clean (and probably cleaner) than when I arrived but he said he never returns deposits - FYI.

A very mixed experience...
By Jeremy, 2/6/09
I stayed there 6 weeks in the extended stay apts. I was moving back to Omaha searching for half-professional work. The price per night, especially for weekly or monthly stays was the most unbeatable I've seen anywhere in the nation! And the commute to Council Bluffs to Omaha is only 20-30 minutes. Its in a small town right by the highway, away from any inner city $20-25/night cheap motel where there are crimes, ect. Most of the people staying were just in town for temporary work in construction or whatever. However towards the end of my visit, there were two people that had a little too much to drink on a Friday night and had a big ole brawl... the cops came and investigated, ect.... Also it seemed that even though a great deal.. after talking with neighbors, the management seemed to quote everyone different rates. I guess that part is the name of the game. Its up to you... if you go to American Inn Council Bluffs, its $100-300 more weekly/monthly, everything a little nicer & closer to town. And then Valueplace Omaha is $300-$500 more, everything a little nicer.

A relief to find
By Christine, 6/21/06
I was on a trip from Denver to Chicago last year and was planning to stay overnight in Omaha, but every motel I stopped at was full. It was late and I was tired. A ball game had just let out and traffic was heavy, so I drove on into Iowa looking for a small-town alternative. I ended up staying at the Underwood Motel in Underwood, Iowa, located about 10 miles east of Council Bluffs on I-80. The motel is just off the interstate and easy to find, yet it's quiet. My room was very nice. It was also clean. I got a good price on it. I would definitely stay here again.
