Wonderful, peaceful place to stay
My aunt and I recently had to come to town unexpectedly and my first thought of a place to stay was the Hideaway. I grew up in the area and it has always been a town treasure. It is close to town, yet has the feel of being away.
The new owner is a wonderful man who made our expierence feel very much like home. He is funny, friendly, accomadating and really has a passion for hospitality and his guests.
We arrived at 2:30 am and he left the room door unlocked for us (something wonderful you could only find in the country), the light was on, as was the heater. It was chilly and my aunt and I found his thoughtfulness thought most warming, as well as the room :) There were extra towels and pillows already set on the bed for us, as we requested them upon our spuratic reservation. The room was cute and very comfortable to stay in.
One of my most favorite things are the permanent residents there...his chickens. Every morning as I sat outside they would come and I would feed them pretzels. One even ate out of my hand! It became routine for them each morning that I was there and I absolutely loved it!
We also got to tour the other rooms. He showed us what he was working on (as he is always doing improvements to make the place comfortable and shine) and the other, bigger, rooms that were available. Great place for a couples weekend. He has put so much time and love into that place and it is even better than what I remember from when I was growing up there. Loved hearing the old train drive through. Brought back many wonderful memories of my childhood. Our room was cleaned daily, with fresh linens and trash taken out, and there was a refrigirator to keep food in just in case.
If you love the outdoors, simple country living, and nature this is your place to stay. We loved, loved, loved it!! Will be staying there again for sure!
Thank you so much honey for the wonderful stay!!!!
