Wonderful, peaceful place to stay
By ,
My aunt and I recently had to come to town unexpectedly and my first thought of a place to stay was the Hideaway. I grew up in the area and it has always been a town treasure. It is close to town, yet has the feel of being away. The new owner is a wonderful man who made our expierence feel very much like home. He is funny, friendly, accomadating and really has a passion for hospitality and his guests. We arrived at 2:30 am and he left the room door unlocked for us (something wonderful you could only find in the country), the light was on, as was the heater. It was chilly and my aunt and I found his thoughtfulness thought most warming, as well as the room :) There were extra towels and pillows already set on the bed for us, as we requested them upon our spuratic reservation. The room was cute and very comfortable to stay in. One of my most favorite things are the permanent residents there...his chickens. Every morning as I sat outside they would come and I would feed them pretzels. One even ate out of my hand! It became routine for them each morning that I was there and I absolutely loved it! We also got to tour the other rooms. He showed us what he was working on (as he is always doing improvements to make the place comfortable and shine) and the other, bigger, rooms that were available. Great place for a couples weekend. He has put so much time and love into that place and it is even better than what I remember from when I was growing up there. Loved hearing the old train drive through. Brought back many wonderful memories of my childhood. Our room was cleaned daily, with fresh linens and trash taken out, and there was a refrigirator to keep food in just in case. If you love the outdoors, simple country living, and nature this is your place to stay. We loved, loved, loved it!! Will be staying there again for sure! Thank you so much honey for the wonderful stay!!!!

Loved the Hideaway
By ,
I loved this motel. What a great history! Just chatting with the owner and sharing stories of the "hay day's" when the Zeffer came through the canyon carrying passengers with great backgrounds. Stayed three nights. Nothing like waking up to the beautiful mountains, blue skies with a cup of hot coffee standing on the porch listening to the birds and surrounding wildlife. Very peaceful setting full of charm and wonderful hospitality. Loved listening to the woeful sound of the train coming through. The local town had wonderful shops with the greatest people willing to sit down and share stories of people of the past and the present. Gorgeous scenery, snuggled in the canyon boasting beautiful rivers, mountains and people. Our room was very comfortable, well equipped with the necessities of comfort. Housekeeping was on top of clean towels, linens and any other comfort. Thank you for a very memorable stay. We look forward to seeing you all again.

Charming
By ,
I love the natural rustic area and the friendly people in this town. Very close to many natural recreational hot spots. Charming older motel with nice clean rooms. Nothing fancy or elegant just nice secluded place.

AWFUL
By ,
Dirty room and didn't get room cleaned the whole weekend that we stayed. Unfriendly service. Huge hole in the wall over the vanity in my room, which invited a tree frog in one day and carpenter ants the next. toilet leaked, plate over the shower drain wasn't secure leaving the 4" diameter drain open and ready to either step in or drop things in (or have things crawl out of). The smoke alarm was in the dresser drawer, not really useful in there. Spider webs throughout the room. Bathroom floor seemed to have been continualy wet so that you could see the mold in the tile (and beneath). Sad that so many of our brave firemen were forced to stay there due to lack of options in the area.

Don't stay here
By ,
They charge 4 star prices for a motel that wouldn't even get 1 star! VERY small rooms. The refrigerator FROZE our milk. The shower sprayed the entire bathroom. The toilet leaked and they actually put a bucket under it! AND if you actually want to sleep be aware of the freight train that goes by across the street.....4-5 times a night! Do yourself a favor....keep driving!

Less Bang for your Buck
By ,
We loved the location, hidden off of the main road in Greenville, Ca. Beautiful mountain scenery and a 'summer camp' feel. However...they failed to tell us of the 2 night minimum. SO, we were charged $60 more than another family member for the same type of room! We had a difficult time even getting into our room, the front door stuck...the bathroom sink leaked...not to mention the hole in the wall behind the shower head that was visible from the front room...spider webs in the corner, dust behind the bed...not what you expect to get for $180 a night! Not to mention only 1 parking spot for 10 rooms (each of us was told it was OUR spot), the chickens and roosters that came to your front door, and the trains rolling by at all hours. Needless to say, we were very disappointed.
