dog friendly!
By luz, 3/21/12
I'm writing in response to Buck's Lake and our vacations in the last few years. My family and I were deeply saddened by the loss of your home and business. We were so looking forward to visiting Buck's Lake Lodge this year. As the owners of Buck's Lake, we have never been treated so well as ANYWHERE as you and your husband treated us. We fully enjoyed the aviance, the lush forest, our cabin how it faced the lake and other times how we enjoyed the very roomy hotel. The restaurant food especially lunch and dinner was an unforgettable experience of absolute delicious dining. That's what I look forward to, is the food! You and your husband were constantly gracious to us always finding ways to help us enjoy our vacation, for example, the kayaking where you taught me how to do, Unforgettable! Even having a great boat ride every year and lending us your boat to fish, just awesome. We look so forward to. Your workers were very helpful and respectable. I just want to thank you and your family for the summers we spent there and we hoped to see things rebuilt for our future vacations. We thoroughly enjoyed the fishing and your help in cooking that fish for us. You are truly a blessing to us and others as well. I sure would hate to see the business go down because I know we will not find others places who served us so well. We just wanted to thank you so much. Our prayers are with you. Remember, If God be for you then Who can stand against you. Be of good courage. Sincerely, Dr. Lucy Vargas, D.C.

Rustic cabins
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/17/12
We have been staying at Buck's Lake Lodge for the last 6 years and have had a great time. The fishing is great, the water skiing is great and the owners of the lodge leave you alone so you can have a wonderful, carefree, experience. My daughter rented her cabin from the Marina and was hassled constantly by the owners.

So sad to loose this lodge!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/10/11
So sad this lodge burned down last year! What a loss! But the new owners of Lakeshore Lodge at Bucks Lake have done a great job of restoring it. Check it out for snowshoeing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, cabin rentals, boat rentals and more. There is a resturant, bar, general store and marina..... Great place!

Not what it use to be
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/17/09
In years past the Bucks lake lodge was a great place for a vacation. The bar was a great hangout after a day of fishing swimming at the beach or hiking the trails.Unfortunately no longer can I say that I believe there was a change of ownership as the place has become a dump. The service is horrible and the cleanliness is sub-par. The bar is now employed by a bunch of ex-cons and druggies looking for trouble. I would stay far away from this place.

Horrid!! Worst experience of my life.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/13/09
I showed up on the night of my honeymoon, after having confirmed my reservation twice in the past two weeks, only to find that my cabin had been given to the owner's relative. The owner was not even apologetic in the least bit. In fact, I almost thought he was going to punch me for expressing my frustration. Luckily they at least had an open hotel room. The next day when I finally got my "Lake View" cabin the lake was visible though the tiniest gap between two trees and over looked the much nicer cabins of Buck's Lake Marina. Also, the cabins of Buck’s Lake Lodge are in awful shape and nearly falling down. The restaurant serves the worst prepared meals on earth, though, oddly, the service was decent. I was later told that this "family" had purchased the lodge to use as a personal retreat and that they were forced into serving the public because of some government permits or something. It shows in the way they treat their customers. Zero star rating. DO NOT GO TO BUCK’S LAKE LODGE!!! You will be much better off renting from the Marina. Far nicer cabins.

DISGUSTING
By Anna, 10/28/08
This place makes Motel 6 look like a 5 star motel. The cabin was filthy. The staff was kind enough to leave the door unlocked & the key on the table as we were arriving early in the morning. I was shocked at what I saw. The garbage,in what they called the kitchen was full, the bathroom garbage the same, the kitchen towels were dirty, the table had crumbs all over it, and the dishes were so disgusting, I wouldn't let an animal eat from them. One of the beds looked as though someone took a nap on it and forgot to fix it. The bathroom, was so small (about 1 ft of space between toilet and shower) that I could barely fit. The shower looked as though it hadn't been cleaned since it was installed. The shower itself was so small that if I raised my hands, elbows out, to wash my hair, I almost touched the shower glass (I am only 5'3 and 125). The carpet, absolutely disgusting, I wouldn't walk barefoot, or even with just socks, on that carpet if you paid me. The sofa had to be from the 70's, the dresser was rickety, had mix matched handles and was lined with newspaper!!! Yes-lined with newspaper! The refrigerator was dirty too! The end table and vinyl covered chair, a dirty, dusty mess. Did I mention the cob webs? A piece of plywood was nailed to another small piece of plywood to make a lifting door that hid the water heater (not a very good job either!). The heater was cranked full blast (90 degrees) and it felt like 60. I was so afraid to sleep in the bed that I wrapped myself in my own blanket and used my own pillow. Oh yeah, the pillows, the smelled as if they have never been cleaned, like someone sweat all over them - gross! By the way, there is no TV or microwave. If there was anywhere else for us to stay we would have left. Definetly NOT worth the $130 per night rate. The bar was ok. The food was good and the staff are really nice. The scenery is beautiful and the fishing was awesome! Just find somewhere else to stay.

Horrible
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/28/08
What a dump. Right up against the dusty highway. The cabins are circa 1930 with no upgrades. Not one. Original refrigerator and furniture all from the 1950's. There are no lake views. The website is deceiving. It is nothing at all like their pictures. Plywood and nails are the primary form of maintenence. We paid for two nights and left after one. We would have not stayed the first except we were tired. The place is right out of a bonnie and clyde movie set. They have a two night minimum because too many folks were so disgusted they tried to cancel the second night (like we did) but are reminded of the two night minimum. Stay away. The resturant is just as bad. They don't even serve coffee before 8:30 am....at a hunting and fishing lodge !? Don't go here. The lake sucks too. Camp at a state campsite !

Buck's is great!
By Chuck, 8/6/08
I love Buck's Lake, the lodge, the lake, the camp grounds, the bar! I have been there many times at the motel, cabin's and camped so I know what it is like. The Lodge fun. Cabin's are old and funky but cool. NO TV or phone or high speed anything. Nothing is high speed at Buck's. I'd skip the motel. Price isn't much different then cabin's. You'd remember the motel about as well as you do any other motel you ever stayed but you will remeber the cabin's. So even if you stay at several camp grounds, go to the lodge for a drink or dinner. Bar is good. Dinner OK. Town of Quincy about a good 1/2 hour drive doesn't offer much. Has a Safeway and Rite Aid but not much more. So don't plan to take the kid's to McD's in town cause they get bored cause they have nothing to do, not there. No Day Spa, no bars on your cell phone, no TV except in bar. Bring food to cook or Q at a cabin. Great lake, fishing can be good, water warm in early July for water sports, good day use beaches. Last there at the bar one night I saw a young man doing Kareokkee (sp?) that was great. May have had something to do with the bar tab I ran up. Short walk back to cabin... Great simple times and fun at Buck'd Lake. Low tech, no shopping, no big city near by, and let the kid's gripe about nothing to do. Tell them to go find some fire wood out in the forest and that will shut them up... Going again after Labor Day

decent
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/23/07
it was a nice place, but far away from town. It was a really long drive to get there but the place was decent. Its good for a person that wants to get away from everything for a a day. Its reminded me of camping.
