Overt price collusion by the 3 classier motels in ChillMo allow this place to stay in business because it charges $20 less/room/night. Nice but cheap people- had to ask for TP & soap (which appeared to have received blows from a ball peen hammer). My room: rug placed over the hole in the floor in front of the toilet and shower. Got several welts suspected to be from bed bugs. No charge for local calls.
Have stayed there several times for several days at a time strictly because of pricing but haven't gone back to ChillMo over the last 3 years because of the low quality of the Starlite and the unreasonably high cost of the GRI, BW, & S8.
The only 2 things I can say about this place is the location & price is great. But...you get what you pay for. This place needs an EXTREME MAKEOVER...inside & out...even maybe a bulldozer. In my previous travels to Chillicothe, I've been staying in a more expensive hotel & I thought I would give my pocketbook a break & give this place a try. Boy, was that a mistake. Now, I'm fully aware that this was an older hotel, but I didn't realize that everything was going to be old.
The "experience" all started when I called to make the lodging reservation. I was told that my reservation was written down & when I called back the day before my arrival, I asked for a confirmation number & they informed me I didn't have a confirmation number, but my name was written down. That made me a little leery in what I was about to encounter.
When I arrived, the outside of the hotel really needed some attention...pick up children's toys from the front door entrance, pull weeds, do some painting...just your basic cleaning & sprucing up.
When I walked into the check in area, I felt like I was in a phone booth, cuz the entrance was no bigger than a phone booth. And the smell of the entrance was a moldy, musty scent. There were cobwebs in the corners of the "phone booth" that looked like they had been hanging there since the place opened. The entire time I was going through the check in process, I was sure hoping that this would get better.
Check in was over, they handed me my key & was off to my room. I opened the door & was horrified. I am not a smoker and the cigarette smoke smell was so bad, I was sick to my stomach & I wasn't in the room more than 2 mins. (This was my fault for not asking for a non-smoking room.) Not only was the smell bad, but it had so many smokers that stayed in this room, the walls were brown from the smoke. The room also had the moldy, musty smell. The bathroom was really out of date. The tub looked like it had mold growing around the edges, the toilet looked like a hole in the ground. I was even afraid to sit on the bed. I don’t even want to think avout what kind of creatures would crawl out of the woodwork at night.
I have never slept in my car before, but if there wasn’t another motel in town, I would have.
Walked in, took a quick look, drove out of the parking lot & went in search for another hotel. Once I carried in my clothing at the other hotel, I went back & checked out of the Starlite.
I’m sorry, Starlite, but you really need to bring this hotel into this century.
Everyone was very nice and helpful during our stay. It is an older motel that might be overlooked for the larger chain motels. It was clean, good location, very economical, if you are just looking for someplace to sleep it is worth your money.
This is a simple, small town motel that is a great value for the money. They offer a cabin room that is physically separate from the rest of the motel that has a deck on the back, making for a good place to grill, if you'd rather not eat out. It's also got a kitchen with breakfast bar. It doesn't cost any more than any other room. The other rooms are ok, just regular, average hotel rooms. Overall, if you're just spending a night or two, and not looking to spend much, this is a great place.
