Winchester Motel, Rifle

The office was locked tight and owner was really grumpy when I arrived - even though he knew I was going to arrive late (11:30 pm; I even arrived two hours prior than predicted). The room smelled like, well let's just say, back in 1979 I stayed in a similar dive and thought I was in a time warp (reinforced by the old, worn out shag carpet with the backing showing through). Fortunately I didn't have the bed bug issue like another reviewer, housekeeping did a good job cleaning the bathroom and working with what they had. But if you like to surf cable tv when traveling like I do, well there were only 8 or so channels and they got old quick. The owner said the office opens at 6:30 am - don't count on it, nobody was available at 7:10 am. One last thing, they advertise a deluxe continental breakfast - I don't know which continent that would occur on but if you want to risk it, what little you'll find is gone well before the posted 10:00 am finish time.
