Bailey Lodge, Bailey

Location is great, an easy drive from Denver, right on the South Platte River, next to a national forest. Really felt like I was having a mountain adventure, without a difficult journey getting there. Air is crisp and clean, saw a bear crossing the highway just a few miles away, trout pond is well stocked. It's easy to drive to other tourist spots if you want, but there's no need. There are good restaurants nearby. Kate, the manager, is friendly and helpful. Rooms -- suites, really -- are comfortable and clean. Each has two rooms, bath and fireplace with a mini-frig and microwave and coffee maker so it's really convenient for families and travelers. Kids loved the swimming pool and space to run. I loved the hot tub. Lots of tourist information in the office. Great place for hikers and birders. Bring binoculars and scopes. This is a very informal, comfortable place to kick back and relax.
