Smoke Hole Log Motel and Cabins, Petersburg

Someone has put a lot of work in making the facilities nice - but the folks who currenty run/own/or manage the place make staying in a Smoke Hole Cabin a mistake. Management will find some way to ruin a good thing! If you take a look in that area, you will find better cabins, with better river access, and for less money too... Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

Wish I had read the reviews on tripadvisor, before staying here. All true and very rude, arrogant people. Never again in this life time

Motel room clean, people nice, restaurant closed at 5, (it's only 6 miles or so back to town) Had no cell signal so used pay phone, bill = $45.00 later that month for one 5 minute collect call home one state away.

In may i traveled from Australia and my lady friend and i stayed at the Smoke hole log cabins in a honeymoon suit the cabin and the surrounds were absolutely beautiful we stayed for 5 nights and it was a stay both of us will never forget

My camping Buddies and I ( The Traveling Cornucopial Circus) have been staying at Smoke Hole for about 15 years now. We camp on top of Dolly Sods every winter for 3 or 4 nights then escape the cold and snow for a nice cabin to relax in before heading home. The hot water showers and flush toilets are our favorite amenities! Last year we happened to be there for the Super Bowl. Good friends with no wives, cold beer and a good game was an excellent time. The older cabins could use a little work.They are starting to feel aged, but all in all it is a great place to stay and a decent value. Years ago, the wood was free. We miss that. The staff is friendly and helpful. Nothing like being in a cozy cabin after the grueling weather on top of the Sods.

My husband and I have spent our wedding anniversary for several years in one of the honeymoon cabins. They are very clean and cozy. There is no phones, but we do get good cell phone service. The staff is very courteous and friendly. We love everything about the cabins, from the jacuzzi tub to the trout stream (no fishing, only feeding). Looking forward to going back next year.

The cabins are great - very good value and extremely clean and the scenery is of course wonderful. Janet Hendricks is a lovely host and very helpful. But, if you are told only the 'cottage' is available then don't book it because a) it isn't on a two acre site like I was told, b) it wasn't up a private lane, and c)it is dusty and hard to breathe in there and the front living room window is falling out so don't lean on it. In fact, the 'cottage' is right on the main road and it gets very nosy what with the cars racing past at all hours of the day and night. The cottage hasn't been modernised or overhauled since its owners died. On the plus side the kitchen is very good and the wooden floor boards are a nice touch. But being so close to the road it is dangerous for kids who can run straight into the road. Plus, my husband thought the toilet and shower room was haunted - he said it was extra cold in there and he felt there was a presence in there. But other than that I like the whole site and still think there's no place like Smoke Hole. The owners have a good business operating there and Janet is charming.

We really enjoyed our visit. The cabin just looked like what was shown on the internet which we liked because some places are not shown like they actually are. The people were pleasant and friendly that worked there. We hope to go back soon when the leaves are changing. It should be beautiful.

I can't deny that the scenery here is great, but please, visit the area & patronize another business for lodging. Our first visit (3 years ago) was without difficulty, but this trip has been a nightmare. Advertised amenities weren't provided (phone, wifi, etc), and the owner was an absolute jerk. (He made my mother cry. Really, does it get much worse than that?) I love the area, & I'll grant these cabins are pretty, but nothing makes up for this kind of treatment. Avoid at all costs!

WE LIKED ALL OF IT ,.WE WERE ON ARE HONEYMOON. I WAS SICK THAT TIME, SO DIDNT GET TO DO WHAT WE WOULDED LIKE,EVERYONE SOE WAS SO NICE.WOULD LOVE TO GO BACK THE 7TH OF MARCH.HAVE THE TIME JUST NOT THE MONEY. YOU SHOULD TAKE THE TIME TO GO ,CAN'T BEAT IT.
