We planned a trip for Meramac Caverns and pick the motel which is less than 1/8 of a mile from the Caverns. I visited the motel in my youth and loved it. Now it's gone somewhat down hill. First off, the tubs are half of the normal size of a tub. Second the water temperature fluctuated DRASTICALLY from hot to ice cold then stayed cold for long periods of time. Making showers impossible. Third, during a storm when the power went out we had NO running water or the ability to flush the toilets. And management was nowhere to be seen. We had no idea if or when the power and water would be back on. I will NOT be recommending this motel to anyone. Also they had new 13 inch wide LCD TV's but were hard to see from the other side of the room. Stay in the town of Stanton or elsewhere . There are lots of nice clean hotels available.
The best thing about this place is it is right next to the Caverns which is what we were looking for on our Route 66 trip and it certainly has a nostalgic feel to it. Clean. Restaurant on the grounds. That said, the water temperature fluctuated wildly and the beds seem to have come from Howard Johnson (is that even legal?!). The motel was hopping as was the campground right next to it, well into the night.
I needed pictures of the Meramec Caverns Motel and could not find one, is there a reason for that it would be nice to see pictures before the trip this could be a deal breaker for someone to stay somewhere esle. Joy from Ky.
