Enjoyed
There are only 6 rooms available for rent here, each of which is individually decorated with its own theme. Nothing too fancy, the rooms are B&B style with 2 shared bathrooms down the hall. No air-conditioning, just a window fan, but even in the summer the nights are cool. Orvis does a fairly brisk business, so make sure that you call well in advance to get a reservation.
The advantage here are the hot-springs, which you have 24 hour access to as an overnight guest. Orvis has done a wonderful job of landscaping, there are several waterfalls to help mask the sound of the traffic from the nearby highway, there were many flowers in bloom and everything was lush and green. Everything was like the Garden of Eden. Which brings up the point that the outdoor springs are all clothing optional. But this is a family destination and there was nothing inappropriate going on. The advantage is that you can pack really light for a vacation here (perhaps a "nakation"). There were naked people of all ages, sizes and shapes; nobody was learing or making fun of anyone. So, if you can get past being worried about the "clothes make the man" prestiege symbol that clothing represents in our society, you will find this to be a very relaxing place to unwind from the stress of your regular life. Robes are provided for each guest and you are expected to wear them in the public areas of the building. But beyond that you can put away the clothing that you arrived in and never put anything but the robe on until the time you leave.
The rooms are least expensive on Sunday through Wednesday evenings, and even at the weekend rates the rooms are a bit less expensive than other motels in the area. Each room has a Deep Rock water dispenser and a "dorm room" sized fridge. There is a full kitchen downstairs with a full range of pots & pans, dishes, silverware, etc. So, if you plan ahead and pack your own food to bring along, you can make this a very inexpensive trip. (And with current gas prices that becomes a real plus.)
This is a great location to get away from it all and relax and I would recommend it to others. My wife was very nervous about the place at first, but by the time we were ready to leave she was begging to come back again.
