Yosemite Gateway Motel, Lee Vining

We walked into a cheaply re-done old motel room that smelled of urine. Do I really need to say more......avoid at all cost....bring a tent. Oh, did I forget to mention that the room rate was 150.00 + tax.

Numerous code violations throughout (from rottting railings with 4+" openings allowing 30 foot drops to extension cords strung about the length of the building). Not only a hazardous scene the proprietors seem to have adopted a "pay us top dollar" or sleep in your car approach to customer service. I couldn't believe the room we had based on the $160 per night we paid (at best it's a cheap $49 a night trucker motel set-up). Our room boasted a deceptive but lingering scent of urine which the front desk insisted was cleaning chemicals and told us they smelt it too when they checked but were sure there was no urine in our room (making my wife and I feel so relieved). Features include insufficient tighly squeezed parking, some inoperable lighting and no amenities aside from kleenex and toilet paper. Heavily worn polyester linens; frayed curtains, and green indoor/outdoor carpet complete the decor. Basic cable and non-functioning WiFi provide an attempt at entertainment (sorry no Gameboy - unless you count the game they played on us). Next ime we'll sleep in the car- thank you.

I chose this motel upon the recommendation of a close friend. I was very disappointed with the quality of the accommodations. One word would adequately describe my experience...OVERPRICED. Maintenance has been deferred for way too long, and many places are unsafe...i.e. rotting wooden banisters, a beam so low that you are bound to hit your head on it, a picnic table that "adjusted" due to rotten/rotting wood as I sat on it, facia boards separating from the building, and a sliding screen door that would not close necessitating sleeping in a stuffy room that had no A/C. Lee Vining is your old school "tourist trap"...and it would appear from my conversation with management, that they are aware of the issues, yet they have seen fit to not make the appropriate and safety-wise repairs. Too bad.

This is the worst flea-bag motel I have ever stayed in. There were dozens of bugs in both the rooms I saw, the shower head was at shoulder height, it was 3 feet off a major road, trucks all night. One glance and anyone could see that the worst $21 highway motel was in better repair and cleaner. This place is a complete dump!
