First impression was that it was fine the money and the area is simply beautiful.
Now to the nitty gritty, the "historic" train depot is right across the street. The train comes thru in the wee hours of the morning blowing its whistle like it was high noon. I live in the heart of a noisy city. I'm used to noise and those stinking trains kept waking me up.
Now how does the Shady motel earn its name? Simple, by hiring shady people. The low lifes here actually stole one of my fine cigars out of room. I travelled to many small towns and large cities and NEVER had that occur. I complained to manager but seemed like she didnt want to hear. I was going to throttle the thief but didn't want to miss flight that day.
A very nice motel; clean, comfortable, well-maintained with up-to-date amenities. A real jewel in a small desert town. Will use it regularly in my travels between CA and UT.
There really is not a better place to stay in Caliente. Try the pizza place thats around the corner. And attach to the pizza joint is a nice dinner that has good food but slow service.
I stay here on State of NV business and it is under our max. of $60. It is clean and the people are nice.
Like most of the motels, it is near the RR tracks, but I use a sound machine when I travel.
