My boyfriend is on a semipro football team and had a game against the bluefield barons, therefore, the team stayed at the Eden Rock Motel. I was very nervous, at first, to even think about staying at this place, based on the way the outside of it looked! I was convinced that we would return to the holida inn express down the road, but it was a little bit more costly. We still forked out about $80 to stay there the one night we did. It turned out to be not as bad as I thought it would be. I was concerned about the area it was in, but I felt safe with my boyfriend. All in all, if we returned, I wouldn't mind staying a single night there again.
*We made a reservation, sight unseen, based on the first review here.
When we arrived, the manager could not find our reservation, supposedly kept in a grimey little notebook also used for his computer business. He had to ask me for the rate quoted. He then proceeded to bash the local college we had come to visit. We parked in the computer business lot as the parking for the motel dead ended into a tiny little channel that we would have had to back out of past several cars.
The door lock was one little push button, no deadbolts or chains. My daughter pulled back her covers...there was hair in the bed and the pillow cases were torn and had burn marks/stains on them. The lighting was poor and the bathroom door would not latch. There had been work done on the room (to the owner's credit) although it was definitely second rate, particularly in the bathroom. Going down for towels, they were kept in a back closet in which the only part I could see had linens falling on the floor from the shelves. I was told we could pick up ice at the office after we went out to dinner. Upon returning, the office was locked and no one answered knocks or the doorbell. This was at 8:30, and about an hour later. We watched TV and went to sleep mostly on top of the covers with blankets we had in the car. My daughter used a souvenier pillow she had bought on the trip. My wife and I took the best 2 pillows we could use from the room. As a final highlight (due to a lack of security), there was a loud pounding on our door at 4 AM. A young lady (late 20's/early 30's) was asking me where the rest of the guys were and and if they were in the room with me. She wanted to know who I was, and if she could come in. She then realized she was supposed to go to another room. We saw her later that morning upon leaving, and she was most apologetic as she stood surrounded by 3 men. I'll let you figure that one out.
Why did we stay? We were tired after a 4 hour drive and college visitation. We just wanted to rest. Would I ever stay there again or tell someone to? Not in this lifetime!
