Loved it.
On a long journey and adventure, I rolled into Durango at sunset. I stopped at a local grocery store and asked several locals where they would have family stay when in town, just a simple room, nothing fancy. Three locals in a row suggested the Siesta Motel, hard to argue with that. I arrived and the owner, Larry, provided me a simple, small but very clean room for a fair price. Larry offered me cleaning rags if I wanted to wash my bike and showed me where the hose was. He provided accurate information on area attractions and places to eat in town. The Texas BBQ right up the street was wonderful.
Reading the other reviews, I did see the housekeeping couple with a small child nearby, but I thought that was nice. This is a mom and pop outfit, not a corporate hotel, and it felt like it. It had a soul, cant get that from a super 8. Also, I only dealt with owner Larry, he was nice, friendly, helpful and wonderful.
In summary, I returned for a second nights stay after visiting Mesa Verde. It would have fit my plans better to stay the second night in Cortez, but I so enjoyed the Siesta Motel and the BBQ that the 30 mile backtrack was well worth it. As I never had time to ride the million dollar highway, I do plan on returning to Durango and I will without hesitation stay at the Siesta Motel again, and I look forward to it.
