Historic Winnedumah Bed & Brkf, Independence

Winnedumah is an old, old hotel that dominates the Route 395 main street in this small town. It is right across the street from the Courthouse in Independence, CA. It has rooms with baths and others that share a bath down the hall. The rooms are small and not at all modern, but it is interesting. There is a large lobby with big comfortable chairs and a breakfast cafe with pretty good breakfast fare. They do not serve lunch or dinner. The only other restaurant in town is the Still Life Cafe, a block away which is high-end Franch. Drive south fourteen miles to L:one Pine for standard dining, but the Still Life is always worth a visit. We stayed one night and were convinced the place is haunted, (it was a young man in a celluloid collar and a straw hat- kind of a 20's fellow) but when we raised that possibility with the management the next day, they had no comment. There is a nice outdoor garden. It is a place for people who are not in a hurry and who can get along without electronics for a day or so. It is a little pricey for the lack of amentiies. No pool, spa, etc. Just a bed.
