The room was supposed to sleep 4 and that was not possible. There were dead bugs all over the floor, dead bug on the futon bed, missing tiles in the restroom, it did not look like it had been cleaned in a while. We were not expecting something fancy at all but we were expecting it to be somewhat clean. The workers/owner were very friendly and did not hassle us about asking for our money back. From the reviews maybe that is just the problem with the hotel...should probably state you will not stay in the hotel you want a cabin if you go. We did have a great time at the river but we did not stay here.
Well it probably wont be a secret for long, Hanging Rock Rocks!!! Marcus is a great host who will bend over backwards to take care of you, and Moe's BBQ will stuff you with great food. Nothing like waking up to the smell of Troy cooking breakfast and smoking lunch and supper BBQ. My family and I had a great time and hanging rock is one of the best little camps on the river. Can't wait to go back.
We reserved two "cabins" at Hanging Rock and were very disappointed. The rooms 7 & 8 had a smell that overwhelmed you with a touch of air freshener. The room was missing tiles on the floor, appeared to be very dirty with dead bugs every where. It looked like they had a flood and didn't do any clean up or repairs. You could see the water line on the bathroom door and the doors were buckled and peeling apart. We were told on the phone to bring twin sheets and the beds were double, however I don't think you could fit two adults on either bed. All I can think is maybe these were the cabins they hadn't gotten to remodel yet. There were more cabins on site that may have been nicer, but not the cabins they assigned us.
We did request our money back for the rooms and float and the employees were were very nice in refunding the money. They were not rude at all but were VERY professional. The brisket smell wonderful cooking and I'm sorry we missed out on that. We did end up finding a hotel room and ended up having a great weekend!
Well the rooms were very dirty. There were all kinds of crazy bugs all over the floor. You have to wear shoes in the room. We felt dirty after sleeping in the beds with who knows how many bugs. There were not many other people at all staying at the motel, and it is in a quite desolate location. It was a little scary at times. There are no phones and no cell phone reception. The staff however was very nice. The trip on the river was a blast. The room and location of the hotel was terrible but it kind of added to the craziness of our trip. I would not stay there again.
So the rooms smelled like mold and the floors crept with centipedes, along with other various insects- it's the river! However, when attempting to take a shower (with shoes on; wouldn't dare go in barefoot) our room completely flooded ankle deep with nasty water.
It was not a terrible experience but for the price we paid we could have gotten a hotel suite in town instead. I sincerely hope the owners either re-think what they are charging for the rooms, or spend some of that income fixing a few things that would leave their visitors thinking they got what they paid for.
Ive been to hanging rock many times in the past. and i love it!!! I do reccommend buying a tent and camping out vs. staying in "hotel" rooms. They have done an excellent job of fixing up the place. and i only hope it gets better. If you love the outdoors this is the BEST place to enjoy it!!!! Close to the water and beautiful scenery!!!!
