Nice people, excellent value
We've stayed twice at Caney Creek Village, most recently in Fall of 2009, both times for several days. We rented the economy cabins (nos. 10 and 11) each time, and found them quite comfortable, and clean. The lack of a full kitchen (although we had a microwave, a small fridge and a coffee maker) was really no problem, because you're only about fifteen minutes from Tellico Plains, with plenty of dining opportunities.
We'd have gladly stayed there a third time, but we foolishly waited until the last minute to make a reservation, and there was a motorcycle rally that weekend, so they were full up. Even so, Dixie on her own initiative found us another place to stay. Tight money has prevented us from going back there for the last couple of years, but we hope to remedy that soon, because we like this more laid-back, less crowded part of the Smokies, and the friendly, helpful people who run Caney Creek Village.
A note about my rating: I gave them five stars, but with the understanding that we're talking about a small, family-run resort that's trying to give their customers the best deal, for a really good price. This isn't HoJo's, and these aren't $160-a-night Gatlinburg cabins. As I said, the economy units we stayed in were clean and comfortable, and the two-bedroom cabin Dixie showed us the last time we were there looked the same -- nicely though not lavishly furnished, with a full kitchen and all the standard amenities.
