Blue Ridge Inn, Sylva

If you need a decent room at a fair price this is the place. Right in downtown with several restaurants within walking distance. The rooms are clean, the staff is friendly, and the price is right. Just like the good ol' days. We stayed two nights, bed was acceptable, the wall unit provided plenty of heat. Bathroom is spartan but clean. Not much of a breakfast but they do have coffee and a muffin. The location is walking distance to the park, shops, restaurants, library, and easy access to US 23/74.

After traveling 10 hours from the coast for WCU open house, we were lucky to find a room anywhere in the surrounding area! Blue Ridge Inn is not the glitz and glamour you see in bigger hotel chains, but quite a nice surprise! The rate was great, the room spotless, and best of all, we felt safe there. It's a step back in time, but a good one. We will stay there again for our visits to WCU!

The Blue Ridge Inn may not be much to look at from the outside...But the rooms are CLEAN...The service is ABOVE average. The motel is dated...but the bed was comfortable. Like I mentioned before, the room was very clean. The TV in my room was a 42 inch and the AC was cold. There were quite a few places to eat within walking distance. The down side was that there was only one outlet...so I did'nt have a choice of where to charge my cell phone. If I had the choice to stay there again or choose another place close by...I would choose the Blue Ridge Inn.

I used to attend grad school at WCU (down the road from Sylva) and anytime I had visitors, I recommended the Blue Ridge Inn. When my husband and I return to Sylva on weekend trips, we still stay there. It is located right in quaint downtown Sylva, within easy walking distance to all the shops and great local restaurants. We are going back for Taste of Sylva at the end of June and we will stay there again! Convenient, polite and clean maintenance, and good price for a decent place to sleep.

At first glance this retro motel looks bareable... only because of the quaint area.. and the fact that there are few hotels around. The room smelled stale, the beds were hard and the comforter was dirty and the cable was broke from the back of the TV and had to be shoved back in but still did not take away the fizz on the screen... the bathroom was leaking from the toilet and the towels were stained brown and there was no large towel. It is the kind of place where empty condom wrappers are left wedged behind the bed and the kind of place where you need to wear sandals to keep from touching the carpet.... the price was "up there" for a motel of this level... this is primarily because Sylva is a college town and the prices were jacked up insanely because they knew they would get it..... the lobby also smelled like an old casserole was left abandoned somewhere behind a nearby door....Drive further down to Cherokee for a better hotel or the "Sleep Inn" near the Walmart is opening up soon.... pay a little more this time.. trust me.

The Blue Ridge Inn, is a older motel. We found that it was very clean and upgrades were being made. The hotel had a full house when we stayed, between a wedding party and a town event. The hotel management staff is a very nice couple that went out of their way to make eveyone feel welcome. They made 2 night stay very enjoyable.

I found the Blue Ridge Inn to be an older-style hotel, well-kept, and extremely clean. The owners are friendly and conscientious. Although it needs updating, cleanliness was more important to me. The carpet in my room looked fairly new and felt clean underfoot. The rooms have outside entries and there are rocking chairs under the breezeways outside each room. There is cable TV, microwave and refrigerator. Breakfast was pre-packaged pastries, cereal in disposable bowls, milk, juice, and coffee. Had I wanted more for breakfast, I could have driven to the Coffee Shop or bought something microwaveable at Wal-Mart, which is just a couple of miles down the road. My cell signal was strong, so service must have improved since a previously posted comment. The location is great, just at the end of Sylva's commercial district at the foot of the impressive courthouse hill. Many interesting shops and cafes are just a short walk away. The Sylva visitor's center is just across the street, and they are ready to help you with your questions. There are some smoking rooms and some non-smoking rooms. It's not a major complaint, but even though the rooms on either side were also non-smoking, somehow I still caught whiffs of cigarette smoke. However, it's not a deal-killer. The pros far outweigh this one con, and I plan on coming here on a return visit.
