Great Value and Location
I found the Blue Ridge Inn to be an older-style hotel, well-kept, and extremely clean. The owners are friendly and conscientious. Although it needs updating, cleanliness was more important to me. The carpet in my room looked fairly new and felt clean underfoot. The rooms have outside entries and there are rocking chairs under the breezeways outside each room. There is cable TV, microwave and refrigerator. Breakfast was pre-packaged pastries, cereal in disposable bowls, milk, juice, and coffee. Had I wanted more for breakfast, I could have driven to the Coffee Shop or bought something microwaveable at Wal-Mart, which is just a couple of miles down the road. My cell signal was strong, so service must have improved since a previously posted comment. The location is great, just at the end of Sylva's commercial district at the foot of the impressive courthouse hill. Many interesting shops and cafes are just a short walk away. The Sylva visitor's center is just across the street, and they are ready to help you with your questions.
There are some smoking rooms and some non-smoking rooms. It's not a major complaint, but even though the rooms on either side were also non-smoking, somehow I still caught whiffs of cigarette smoke. However, it's not a deal-killer. The pros far outweigh this one con, and I plan on coming here on a return visit.
