Notice it's not a "Best" Western. Just Western. Checked in here on a walk-in basis after deciding to press on past Amarillo, where the hotels are ample. Mistake. It looked ok from the outside and seemed more crowded than the other motels nearby. Inside, we were treated to shredded threadbare towels, a showerhead that was coming loose from the wall and a tub that was stained. The blanket was exceptionally worn and had a hole in it, the sheets appeared rumpled, and my pillow had someone else's hair on it. I'm not all that fastidious, but the place grossed me out so much, I slept in my clothes and skipped my morning shower. It was loud, too, with lots of trucks whizzing by. There was no Internet. And it cost a lot. I think they charged us like $65, the most we paid for a highway hotel during our road trip. And it was the least pleasant.
On the plus side, the tv worked, I think there was a refrigerator, and it smelled strongly of disinfectant, so I suppose it was at least sort of cleaned before we checked in. There are other motels along the strip in Shamrock, which is part of old Route 66. I wish we would have checked around, or driven another hour.
