WE HAVE BEEN EATING HERE FOR YEARS. BEING A LOCAL, WE KNEW TO GET THERE 20 MINUTES BEFORE 5PM TO GET SEATED AT 5PM OPENING. NICE AND CLEAN, GOOD SERVICE FROM DIANE WITH A WAIT STAFF HELPING EACH OTHER. LARGEST $14.95 T BONE YOU WILL FIND. ENOUGH FOR 2 PEOPLE WITH EXTRAS FOR SNAUSER AT HOME. FRENCH FRIES AND GREAT RINGS HAVE TASTE OF VARSITY IN TEXTURE AND TASTE- A HIGH POINT. WIFES BAKED POTATO WAS HUGE. RAINBOW TROUT AND GREAT BURGERS ACCENT THE MENU. FEELS LIKE OLD TIME MOUNTAIN RESTAURANT. WE'LL BE BACK OFTEN WITH FRIENDS. BRING CASH OR CHECK. HOURS 5-9 PM THURSDAY TO SUNDAY. CLOSED EASTER FOR CHURCH. Best Food!!! Good People!!! i have eat there a good bit and we all love it :)

I went with a party of 27 people. The steaks were huge and most people liked it but to me and my wife, the steaks were tasteless. No seasoning at all. We ate our large baked potatoes and carried the steaks home to finish cooking them right. If I live to be 100 years old, I can say that I ate there once because I don't plan to go back.

love the food. love the service. love the owners. everybody that works there is great. Yes, I read the reviews and some people let their children leave messes and YES, the parents NEED to clean it up. No matter which restaurant it is. Highly recommend Deer Lodge. Too bad it is closed in the winter. Looking for the reopening in March and cannot wait to get there. NOT EXPENSIVE! "where the locals eat".............

We went to the Deer Logdge on Saturday pm for the 1st time. It opened at 5pm- we arrived about 5:10 and the place was already full. We took a number and waited appx 15 minutes for a table, I was really expecting something fantastic, judging from all the people waiting outside. When we were finally "directed" to our table, I felt like we were eating in someone's windowless basement. I faced the kitchen and my husband faced the other patrons. The menu is simple, with just a few entrees. I ordered the seafood platter and my husband had a steak. We received our coleslaw and drinks, then waited another 15 minutes for our entrees. The coleslaw was good, but was served at room temperature. Finally our entrees arrived. The foil baked potatoes were large but ordinary- the best part of my seafood platter was a small battered and fried whole trout. The other items included 3 fried shrimp, a crab cake in the shell and 3 hushpuppies. The next best thing on the plate were the hushpuppies. My husbands steak was very large, but he brought the majority of it home to our dogs. We had to ask for bread, which we got half way thru eating the entree. Apparently no dessert is served there, as none was offered to us., The waitress was friendly. Our bill came to $35.74. This place is situated in a beautful section of the mountains. They should tear down the dingy, basement building and construct a real lodge, with high ceiling and oh yeah- SOME WINDOWS!!!! Won't be going out of my way to eat there again. Definately would not bring any out of town guests. Much better restaurants in the area with good food and some atmosphere.

We have been eating at Deer Lodge for over 20 years and have always had great food and excellent service. The resturant is clean and staff are friendly. The steaks and baked potatoes are huge. The county ham is wonderful. We enjoyed eating there Friday night and brought enough ham home for breakfast even though we are big eaters. Will agree with the comments that those complaining must be outsiders who are not satisfied with anything. We are from N.C. and certainly enjoy eating there every time we are in the area. Don't blame owner for asking customers to clean up mess their kids made. During the late 80's &90's we averaged eating there at least once a month. When we are in the area for a concert or the Georgia Mountain Fair we always make it to Deer Lodge. Most times we have to wait to be seated but it is well worth the wait. You won't beat the price for the amount and quality of food while receiving excellent service.

We visited the Deer Lodge with 2 other people, 2 had steaks, 2 had seafood. The steaks were tasteless and the seafood well----- The trout was good. They had no lemons for tea or the seafood, and their coleslaw was awful. It isn't a place that I would waste time or money going back to.

We have visited this restaurant many many times over the last several years and I haven't had anything but great food there! The service is always superb and the owners are very nice! In regards to the negative comment posted 8/16/09, I was at the restaurant when the owner came outside and asked the customer to clean up after themselves. What I remember is that the children decided to have a so called food fight, made a mess of the restaurant and left it there. I don't blame any restaurant for asking people to clean up after themselves, especially when there is a mess such as the one I saw. Obviously, this person did not tell the entire story. Parents need to be responsible and keep an eye on their children when they are eating. If my children had left a mess like that, I would have insisted myself that they get a broom and clean it up! I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone! Its worth the time and money.

The food was great and the service was superb.We spoke withthe owners and they are supoer nice. We will definitely will return... Reading the only complaint it sounds like they thought they were better than your average people.. probably a bunch of snot heads from Florida up to spoil our little town.People ,act like someone and you will be treated like someone.As I said we spoke to the owners and they are just super people and the wait staff went above and beyond to make sure it was a great dining experience.. The Deer Logde Restaraunt's steaks(Extremely large and difficult to finish)are amazing, along with the huge baked potatoes. The flavor is addicting. The entire atmosphere is friendly and loving.
