Harker's Island Fishing Center, Harkers Island

We have been going to the fishing center for over a decade, if you are looking for maid service and 5-star accommodations...stay in Beaufort for 200 a night, but if you are a real fisherman, who wants the basics and knows what a real fishing trip is, this is the place for you. Rob runs a top notch fishing center where guides from the local area and guides from far away places like Cape Cod and beyond show serious fly- rodders some of the best fishing that exists. These guys are extremely talented and work very hard for their clients, they are also very friendly. This is a FISHING CENTER, not a Hilton Inn, but it is clean and extremely convenient as well as very affordable. You will not find a better set up anywhere!!

We stayed in one of the efficiencys during the week and took the ferry to Cape Lookout from there. Nothing fancy, but everything you need for a short vacation. Only problem was housekeeping service minimal. Everyone friendly and willing to go out of the way to be helpful. Sit on the swing on the waterfront and enjoy the evening breeze or throw your line over and go fishing off their dock. Definitely would like to return to this peaceful retreat.

We didn't stay in the motel. We used their ferry service to go over to the Cape. They were very friendly, easy to talk with, and provided excellent service. On the way back we went by Shackleford to see the horses. Next trip back we will use this service again.

My husband and I were married at the Cape. We stay with here every year and love it so much we got married there!!! :o) Rob and his "family" are considered our family!!! It is a wonderful place to come to if you want to relax and get away from the traffic, noise, and non-sense of daily life. We can't wait to go back and plan to for our Anniversary this year. We have a combined total of 7 kids and they all LOVE HIFC!!!!! Thanks for all the wonderful years. PS if you are looking for the Hilton, go somewhere else and don't bother, leave the rooms for us because we will return every year as long as we live!!!!

Some forty + years ago I went fishing at the bridge to Harker"s Island with my parents. Last year I returned to travel down memory lane and came upon the fishing center. We stayed in one of the rooms for a few days and explored the island. The people were real,the rooms were real. Every thing was clean and Our needs were completely met. This is my ideal place to go as a family or just a place to get away. Completely afforable and comfortable. Returning tomorrow for a stay at our favorite friendly island get a way.

What you have to remember is that this is a fishing center! It's not the Ritz or even a Motel 6! That being said, I go down there for a quick getaway as often as I can. I never stay in discount level hotels. This is the ONE exception to my hotel snobbery! The place IS decorated back in the 70's but it's always clean. The view can't be beat. The staff are wonderful. It's the most relaxing place I know of!

I liked the place a lot. While it does have very basic amenities, it was clean, and the shower was hot. You just have to go with the idea that you are not going to have a palatial, catered experience like you do with a place that you pay more money for. If you like peace and quiet, cheap accomodations, in a nice environment with easy access to Cape Lookout, this is definitely the place to go. Moreover, the staff helped me out numerous times. They helped me re-acquire my ATM card when I lost it, and my dad out when he had his heart attack....

Cinder block walls, carpeting from the 70's and hard as rock beds. The room had a bad musty smell, and the bathroom was tiny. It was a clean room, but I wouldn't stay here again.

Harker's Island fishing Center is a great place to stay. If you're looking for fancy than this is not it. It is very clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful. You can keep your boat right at their dock, walk to the corner grocery store and grill out on their deck.The location makes for a quick trip to Cape Lookout, Shackeleford or the Beuafort Waterfront It's one of the few places around that will allow your pet to stay. It's a great valuet that I would definitley recommend. We're planning on staying there at least one week every summer. Come on down east and plan on a good time!
