I will never go there again
By Bdoll, 10/2/11
The owner of the marina, Rose, I believe, was insanely rude to us. I was down for a weekend with my college roomates. I normally go to another marina to take the ferry to cape lookout but did not do so, I will never again use Calico Jacks. We were on time for our ferry, early even, and were in line to get snacks, she saw the line, looked at us and said, "Oh God!" This was said in a very disgusted manner. It is true that the marina was busy, however we were not holding up the ferry, only getting drinks. She basically told us we were holding everyone up and that we had to hurry. Never said thank you, have a good day, nothing. Rose is destroying her own business. Very rude, however the other men that work there are very nice. I told one of them how rude she was to us and he apolozied the best he could for her.

NEVER AGAIN
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/6/11
Only boat ramp I've ever been where the operator fusses at you when you pull in the parking lot. I relocated to boat ramp, where people are much nicer. Can't rate clealiness, never got that far.

The hotel is GONE!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/14/11
I called about a week before my fiance and I went to Harker's Island. Evidently, there was a SERIOUS breech in communication because, when we got there we could see the marina but no hotel. We stopped in at the Cape Lookout Park Service building and found out that the hotel had been razed to the ground only a couple of months prior. There's virtually no place to stay now on Harker's Island. You'll have to stay in Beaufort or Morehead City.

I look forward to it every year!
By allik, 9/6/10
I go out to North Carolina once a year durring spring break to visit my aunt, and every year, without fail we visit Harkers Island. No we do not go visit the lighthouse. We have done that once but it is too touristy. Instead, we go out to another island that has much more history and a much better view. I'm not going to post online the name of this little island, instead, you are going to have to go out to Harkers Island, stay at Calico Jacks, exoerience their wonderful hospitality, and then ask them what is the most unique island that the ferry can take you to. I guarentee if you bring some jeans and tennis shoes, walk around in the saw grass, you will see what I am talking about there is no other island that has this. and if you forget your hiking gear, just sit out in the water and be exteremly quiet and wait... what i am talking about will come to you :)

Nice Getaway
By James Arthur, 7/10/10
We spent one night at Calico Jacks. It was quiet, and comfortable. The motel and rooms are a little dated, but everything was clean. Everyone was extremely friendly, and the view of the sound is great. Harkers Island is a great place to go, and get away from the hustle and bustle of crowded beach towns. We took the ferry over to Cape Lookout (our second time over). The beach is breath taking! Everything natural, and no beach houses. The best part is the ride on the ferry! I would much rather go to Harkers Island during the peak summer season than Morehead City or Atlantic Beach.

Great fishermens hotel
By Widowed, 2/22/10
Took my family to visit Carteret County and stayed here. It was great for what we needed. A clean, safe place to sleep and shower. The ferry service to Cape Lookout is great!

Great Banks Beginning
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/1/09
What a way to start a vacation on the Banks - delightful, homey, affordable, and family-oriented. I'd spend a day, a week, or a month there. You'll not meet nicer people. It's not fancy, but it doesn't need to be.

Very friendly and helpful.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/20/09
We had a great time using the ferry service to Cape Lookout. Storms were predicited later that day and the captain told us they would be keeping an eye out for the bad weather. We decided to move up our departure time becuase of approaching storms/thunder. They took us back to Harkers Island early - good thing because we had a tremndous storm a couple hours later. Very helpful guide. We enjoyed looking at the horses on Shackleford Banks as we headed to Cape Lookout. This island is beautiful. Huge waves on the ocean side of the island (be careful) and good swimming on the sound side of the Cape Lookout island.
