9 reviews for Pines Motel, Wrightwood
over priced for amenities
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/14/09
the room was clean, bit musty. the managers nice but would have been helpful if he pointed out that we needed to plug in the fridge. we threw out a ton. shower was hot but not enough pressure to get shampoo out. the toiletries were awful. best thing was its proximity to ski lifts

Not so bad!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/25/09
I read these other reviews and they are not fair. We recently stayed in Room 7. The beds were firm and the linens were clean. There was a slight musty odor, but not bad. More of a rustic cabin smell. The hot water in the shower was a little cool when the neighbor was taking a shower at the same time. But, the room was clean and reasonably priced for the accommodations.

SMELLS HORRIBLE !!!
By JasonFan, 02/24/09
Like has vacancy, cute on the outside Now, our experience about room number 7..... Don't like Dirty ... but that's better than the smell. We thought it was a musty, dusty smell at first, but it was really mold (?) and mildew. It's just an odor, how bad can it be? It was bad enough that we bought some scented soybean wax candles (I was told that it burns cleaner, esp. for asthmatics) and it helped a little but we still smelled a whiff of it now and then. The smell was so bad that it stayed on our clothes (we stayed only one night). We packed our clothes and put it in the car and went to a tubing area and played for about 4 hrs. When we got back, our car smelled like our room #7 !!! When we got home, the smell was into our bags, etc... Luckily, after one wash, the smell was gone. We just have to air out the rest (we're still waiting for the result since we just got back yesterday). The bathroom had holes in the wall, so they put tape on top of it and painted over it. They use a tin can to hold a toilet plunger by the toilet. The shower has boiling hot when someone (other guests) flushes the toilet. The small fridge had stains inside...so we left our food in our cooler. There's no locks on the windows. We did book last minute and they had a vacancy. It's not worth it...at least for room number 7.

Warning- DO NOT ENTER
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/22/08
I do not know where to begin. This was the filthiest place I have ever seen. I stayed here 20 years ago and came back because my first experience was nice. From the looks of it now, I do not believe this place has seen any renovation or even basic handy work since the last time I was here. The main bedroom linens were stained. The trundle bed was held up by plastic milk cartons. I don't think the shower stall has ever been cleaned. The indoor/outdoor carpeting was stained and dirty. I have posted pictures to show all of this. Beware! One of the locals said we were lucky if the place got a spit and a wipe down. They've nicknamed it Bates Motel. This was worse than any seedy motel you could ever imagine.

would'nt go any other place in town
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/30/07
I quite honestly enjoy The Pines. Historically it's Wrightwoods oldest...I enjoy the fact that it was built with the mentality to offer visitors a real mountain cabin visit. It's a cozy place that is within walking distance to good restaraunts and the towns only market. Being a hiker, I know it's the Pacific Coast Trail hikers #1 stopover in route to Canada. It will always be a very special place to me.

Probably better off elsewhere
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/12/07
The outside is cute but bed was lopsided, blankets and towels worn, ALMOST too dirty even for me, and late-night revelers kept us up from 2:00 - 3:00am :-( Could probably do better somewhere else in town. Luckily all we needed was a place to crash for six hours on our way north.

Never to return.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/07/06
The motel had dirty blankets, holes in the sheets and rotting food in the fridge. Good location but other motels are in the same area. For $130 it was not worth it. Next time i want a cold shower I will use the garden hose.
