If you like rustic, very rustic you might like this place. The cabins are very close to the lake and the fishing is fairly good. The cabins are only for a place to sleep if you can on the worn out beds. Rodents got into our food and were all over the counter tops. The front door wouldn't lock. Cabins are not up to code. There were no smoke alarms. Wiring was jacked into the fuse box so the door to the box wouldn't close. heating wasn't adequate even for 55 degree's. Cabins are very old and poorly maintained. Your pets will cost you fifty dollars a day as an add on. My recommendation is camping or rent an RV or camp trailer. This is a very beautiful lake nestled in the deep forest just don't stay at the cabins or hotel cabins. This is not a resort!!!
We went sight unseen and trusted the one picture on the web sight and the information given over the phone. We will never do that again. It was filthy! There was a dead mouse in the water heater room. There were holes in the windows so that there were tons of flying ants in the downstairs. When we got there we realized it was awful but there was going to be ten of us meeting there so we decided to make the best of it. We went to the store and stocked up on cleaning supplies, duck tape to tape the windows and bug spray. We spent the whole first day disinfecting and cleaning the entire cabin so we felt OK, we can handle this place for a few days. Then that night after we all showered the plumbing backed up so that raw sewage came up into the bathtub. That is where we drew the line. After a lot of hassle with the people in charge, we were able to get a full refund and we packed up and moved to a nice cabin in Greer, for not that much more money. But it left a bad taste in our mouth because when you go up for a 4 day weekend and spend the first half cleaning and then repacking and moving and unpacking it ruins the vacation. I do have to say though that the lake itself and the surroundings is absolutely beautiful and the fishing is great! If you go, just camp out or bring your own trailer. It is really a gold mine that they have there, but they don't know how to manage it well and perhaps don't have the funds to bring the cabins up to decent living standards. It really is a shame, but don't stay there unless you are really ready to rough it, or until you at least see it to know what you are getting into.
If so this is the place for you! Absolutely the filthiest, most disgusting cabin I have ever seen. We had rats and mice, doors that didn't lock, 3 out of 4 burners on a stove didn't work...and more. Depending on your cabin and the weather, you may want to bring along a 4 wheel drive to get to your getaway. We had friends that went also. A couple had cabins that were ok, but most were definitely not. They are very unclean, I can't stress unclean enough.
It's unfortunate. This could be a nice place if they would invest a little money and time to clean up.
The lake and grounds are beautiful, I would just strongly recommend against renting one of the cabins sight unseen.
