I read the other good reviews and booked a room at this hotel. It needed a cleaning badly. There are ground in dirt paths on the carpets and the place looks dingy. There is no security. The front doors to the hotel are open all night and anyone can walk in. Noone mans the front desk at night. There are no clock radios or alarms or toiletries in the rooms. The owners sons live in the basement of the hotel and made noise in the middle of the night. The hotel phone is often not answered and there is no answering machine.
On the positive side: the hotel clerk was friendly. The front porch is very nice. It has a great location on the beach.
Old charm in a very convenient location. Lovely old porch and nice lawn--made me want to put on white shorts and play cricket. Good value. Wouldn't stay in the "newer" building but the original three stories in the old building are awesome.
My sense was that there must be a ghost somewhere and I like history so I was very pleased to enjoy the Chesterfield's somewhat run-down ambience.
The Chesterfield Inn is terrific. It's got the charm of an older hotel with interior room access, and the meals served are outstanding. My In-laws honeymooned there, we honeymooned there, and all of us have been back numerous times since. The location is great also.
Niagara Falls, Ontario.
We drove all the way down just to try and find a nice place to stay on the Strand. I am so glad my husband stumbled upon this Gem!
Not only was the price incredibly reasonable for the end of June, but they offered us the "Honeymoon Suite" because we were from so far away and thought we deserved a treat. The room they gave us was at the back of the hotel overlooking the beach. The wrap-around porch with old rocking chairs was right outside our door. The morning breeze was incredible. 15 foot ceilings, four poster canopy bed and an orginial sized bathroom. We even had our own minifridge.
The Hotel is BEAUTIFUL! Old estate and wrought iron and gleaming hardwood everywhere. We sat out on their side porches every single night and people watched. The owner, Karen and her husband made us feel like family! We laughed and talked late into the night on more than one occasion. All the while the security service she employs to walk around the property all night made us feel VERY safe.
I hope we can save enough to go back in 2006, but with all the glowing reviews, I am afraid they won't have any room for us!
first of all the staff here are the friendliest i have ever seen! i stay there every year during the harley rally! it is close to everything!! i cant wait to get back there this spring!!this is the first motel that has ever sent me a christmas card! thank you kyle, karen and especially chris!! chris is one of the guys at the rally! he comes and hangs out even when he isn't at work!! thanks to all of ya'll! Merry Christmas!!!!
This is a older hotel. We stayed in the honeymoon suite. The shower was the size of a telphone booth. I will never stay there again as I like nice ammenities such as indoor pools and jacuzzis. If you want those type of things then stay somewhere else. If you just want to sleep then this palce would be okay. The bathroom was small. Overall I hated this place.
