Border Motel, Calexico

I spent 5 nights in this motel. Room was $40 a night including tax. The place was immaculately clean. Pool and BBQ area; lovely. This motel may as well be in Mexico! NOBODY on the premises spoke any English! Since I am a Spanish speaker, I didn't have any problems. All the people who worked at this motel were sweet and very accomodating. Sparse furnishings is an understatement! No dresser, table or desk. TV was on a ceiling mount. Full size bed was firm and comfortable. TV had a remote and there was one aluminum stack armchair in room. Shower and toilet worked fine and were maintained spotless and fresh smelling. A/C was good too. There is a fantastic 24 hour Mexican bakery and "diner" just around the corner. Also, NOBODY spoke English! All the food was delicious and really cheap (to compete with Mexico 2 blocks away). This is NOT a place for non Spanish speakers! In fact the whole city of Calexico is not "English user-friendly". English speakers would do better to stay in "El Centro" which is more of a USA style city. For those who want to practice Spanish, The Border Motel and the neighborhood it's in is perfect!
