Neals Lodges & Cafe, Concan

My first vacation in 1948 when i was 7 months old was to Neals, and i have been a faithful follower ever since. What a great place to have family fun, now all my kids go there too ! Beautiful surroundings, great food and a great family staff. The river has deep and shallow places to swim or just to sit in. Dont miss the hayride with refreshments, its loads of fun and you see a lot of wildlife too ! I would recommend to all, peaceful, fun, relaxing and worth the time and money ! My only regret is, i missed a couple of years .

I am 11 years old and my family has been coming for over 40 years, but this was my first time. The water was a little low but I had the time of my life. I swam and jumped off huge rocks into the water everyday. I had so much fun,the cabin was awsome. I loved every part of the trip except for the 6 hour car drive there and back. I will deffenitly be back.

My family and one other family have been camping at Neal's off and on for 20 yrs, and we would all rather go there than Disney World (that has been an option at least twice that I can remember). It's not for everyone, the campgrounds are very primitive. The Big Rock is located in Neal's and that is where we kids spent most of our days, and the dance at Garner was what we did at night. I don't know much about the cabins because we always wanted to stay "on the water", instead of having to hike down the road to see/swim the river. I guess some folks can't handle tents, but that was always the good part about going camping--actually camping. Next week,I am taking my husband and 2 yr old daughter for the first time, and I am so excited to introduce him to Neal's and to break in a new generation of River Rat.

I've been coming to Neal's for about 20 years, and we always come back for more. The restaurant always has great food, great service, and great views of the Frio. We stayed for the first time in the new Tree House cabin, which is perfect for a big family like mine (12 plus). You're also only about 10 miles away from Garner State Park. If you like a small town atomsphere getaway for you or your family, then I would definitely recommend Neal's!!

We rented 3 of the higher priced houses for our four families, but I don't believe we would return here. The beds in our new cabins were awful, and the kitchen supplies were totally inadequate with not even a kitchen spoon, broiler pan, decent can opener or dish cloth, just to mention a few items. I noticed a good supply of utensils were available in the store, so I guess the sparse supplies were by design. Wnen you pack a car full of luggage, groceries and bedding, you don't have room to bring essential kitchen tools, and that's what we needed. Cell phones don't work there, so that was a little bit of a challenge. We love to tube and are all strong swimmers, but the Frio is pretty treacherous. I woudn't recommend it for young children or old folks. There is no warning about the waterfall, and after I knocked two knots on my head going over it, I understand why some people drown. Several of us got pretty banged up. I know lots of people return to Neal's year after year, but our families will probably vacation somewhere else. All in all, there were too many negatives.
