Surfside Motel, Freeport

This manager has anger issues, I feared for my family and my safety. City council should do something about this man. He screams at the top of his lungs always going to call the police (never saw a cop there yet) they think he's nuts too!!!! It was so bad we had already paid and needed to leave before we even unpacked the car. I think he intimanates people into leaving so he can rerent the room. He would not give us any kind of refund. he not only yelled at us as if we were children (I'm 49 & hubby 55) and demanded an apology, we hadn't done anything wrong. My daughter just wanted her friends to come on the balcony to sing and eat Happy Birthday cake before they went back home to Houston. He accused us of trying to put extra people overnite in the room. He would'nt even let us explain anything before threating us. Someone in Sufside should put a stop to this by not renewing some city contract with him. Surfside Beach doesn't need or deserve this type of review because of one hotheaded idiot. Mark my words one of these days the police will be called for a shooting or stabbing by this man's hands. All you good people that live and depend on visitors for income take note he's not any value to your community. I've been going to cedar sands for 25years. Never again, and will start telling everyone I see at the beach to read all these reviews and let them know the good ones were written by him & his friends. I'm usually at the beach every weekend in the summer. I'm also going to call Mayor Larry Davidson's Office to file a formal complaint.(for future safety reasons)

Good air conditioner, everything else less than stellar. Motel is extremely seedy, room MUCH smaller than website photo and smelly. Man and wife owners are possibly the rudest innkeepers I have ever come across. 22 years of being hoteliers has soured them on the idea of being polite and courteous to their guests We had a disagreement on billing and they were threatening, curt and abusive. Put a big cloud over an otherwise pleasant vacation!

For a non-descript, little motel I was positively impressed. The price I paid for my room paid for cleanliness and a nice location. I'm glad I wasn't paying for useless landscaping and uneccessary decorating. I was happy to find a firm bed, well circluated A/C, many TV channels and a pretty view of the village of Surfside. The windows, after having been exposed to gulf air for years, still opened! There were grills for customer's use and they would even loan out beach towels. The dampness commonly found throughout coastal accomodations was not present here either. I will continue to use this motel when I visit the Freeport area.

My family was looking for a quick unplanned get-away from Houston, we ended up here, and it was right on the beach, big, had cable TV, smelled OK, but there were a lot of unfinished touches, new tile with unfinished grout, the edge of the counter top was missing, bathroom tissue holder had been ripped out of the wall, and it needed some touch up paint, and there was a leaky pipe under the kitchen sink that was being caught by a nasty dirty pan... Gag! Overall the service was great, the people nice, the beach beautiful in the morning sunrise, and a quiet calm beach village. That part couldn't have been better. It had a nice little kitchenette (that was really normal kitchen size) it's nice for saving on eating out. Don't trust Google's map to get there, turn at Purple Cow and it's on the left right before the dunes and beach access, we waisted a good half hour trying to find it with very tired children... For the next visit to Surfside for more than a day trip we'll rent a beach house with friends unless this places improves dramatically, though for the price it was a bargain.

It's a small family run motel, simple but very clean, with 4 beach houses of the beach, and we've returned many times over the past ten years. Jim and Brenda were helpful in pointing out things to do, Galveston is about 20 miles away. Surfside defintely is not as "commercial" as Galveston, and for my family it was a welcome place to stay.

This place is a pit. The location was terrible, nowhere near the beach. You can't even see the water from anywhere on this property. Our room contained two live spiders (one inside the sheets), one dead fiddler crab, one LIVE crab, and several roaches in various places. The owner couldn't keep more than 3 people straight at a time (we were trying to get 4 rooms), and he was constantly confused, even with those people he had just helped. Don't stay here. We spent far too much on such a filthy place.

We reserved a room with a credit card several weeks in advance, confirmed the dates with the motel owner 3 times on the phone, visited the motel two weeks before destination date and again confirmed the reservations, however once we arrived at motel, room was given away due to wrong date reserved BY MOTEL OWNER!!! Nothing was done to try and fix the problem, staff was VERY RUDE, and turned us away!! STAY ELSEWHERE.

I LOVED this place, though I think they may've changed the name, because it's listed differently now. I am currently planning my next trip down there. My husband and I are making it our annual destination for my birthday because the atmosphere is so relaxing. Our stay was absolutely wonderful, the owners were very sweet. We were the first people to stay there since they renovated, and the rooms we rented for us and our friends were perfect! We had a great view of the ocean from our window, and the patio is perfect at night! We got out a guitar and danced out there til 2 am (quietly, of course). It's a minute's walk to the beach, and to the liquor store down the street (if it's that kind of vacation!), and a very short drive to some great seafood places. Can't say enough good things about this hotel! I very highly recommend you make time to stay there a weekend...you'll never want to leave!

Like: How close it was to the bridge bait boat ramp like 5 minutes tops,clean rooms, new air-conditioners by remote ! What I loved was no nosey maids going through your stuff very private and they respect you. Everything in the rooms have been updated, Don't let the small look of the motel fool you this place and the people that stay there are super nice and family atmosphere not a loud motel very quite and laid back. Beach is at the end of the street and at night you have the best breeze and very very few of those pesky mosquito's. Whe the fogger truck comes by go into the room it is strong. The owners we meet at check in and were the nicest people ! There are small refridgerators in the room we had which was perfect , No BUGS at ALL ! Clean sheets and bathroom ! Cable TV. I didn't dislike anything at this hotel , it was great . No discounts available but, it is well worth the price not overly expensive. They do have oversize rooms
